I hear you...I was just poking.
I still have the orig blade on my rear wiper; dunno if it works and,
don't care. DearJuan/Juanted was the virgin slayer for that wiper.

My CEO's new Hyundai Tucson has a very cool looking wiper; that
hasn't been on either, but it feels like it's a 3 buck plastic thing,
build-wise. Looks good, but not thoroughly "built". That Volvo
arm/blade looks pretty good.

What the X5 really needs isn't a better looking rear wiper, it needs a better functioning rear wiper. The length of the current wiper can't be changed or else you are going to destroy the 3rd rear brake light. If you could find a wiper on mounted on a cam or something similar that changes length, then you'd really have something. So that it's at its shortest length when pointing straight up (and not hitting the 3rd rear brake light) and at its longest length when perpendicular to that point so that it effectively covers maximum area.

Also, the spray is IMHO a disaster and I wish it would actually spray and not pee/dribble on the back window, though I honestly don't know how well that would work at speed.

Ohh thank god, i remember posting something about this a few years back, everybody thought i was crazy. The wiper on the back of the E53 looks so old, the whole car looks good then you look at the wiper arm and your like.. wtf was bmw thinking!

Ohh well hopefully this is a success and we can all get replacing to the later style!

I hate that stupid rear washer sprayer as well. I'd probably have better chance if I threw a cup of water out the sun roof towards the rear of the car. Wish we didn't need a rear wiper but not the case here. Oh well, just replace the darn car...

Just upgraded my rear wiper(twice) Unfortunately some of you guys wont have a clue what i'm on about. First I pinched the rear wiper off my missus Citroen C2
but that was too short. Now have the rear wiper from a Vauxhall Astra van(2008)
longer than the C2 but shorter than the original E53. Doesnt sit lower than the mounting point (like a hockey stick), straight line but I didn't want it to go to the top cos I cant see out there and it'll take off my forum vinyls.

I said the same thing in post 42, which makes sense considering all the turbulence back there.

BTW - I'm still waiting for my cookies to come in the mail...

I never really noticed or thought that the rear wiper arm on the e53 looked old or dated. I actually like how the oem blade tapers into the arm for a clean look on the e53. Putting an icon style blade on the back looks silly, imo. It is a much fatter, heavier looking blade. On top of that the Icons have a spoiler on it, which is pretty much useless on the back and looks out of place to me. I am not a fan of that Volvo arm either.

As far as function, my oem rear wiper works well. I have no complaints and at $2.81 per blade refil, I see no point of changing it.

Spending almost $100 for something only everyone else will see but me. I'm not back there enough to concern myself with it.

I think the big blocky plastic molded wipers look like total crap. Why you guys would use the e70 or Volvo wipers is beyond me.

The OEM arm and blade works better on the X5 than any other SUV I've driven, and it matches the look of the front blades... I see no need to change it.
