Earlier in this string you said the vehicle was under a CPO warranty. That being the case I would DEMAND a new transmission. Transmissions are like fine time pieces and its just too easy for a rebuilder to screw up.

The dealer should be able to show him their invoicing/shipping documents to confirm it's new. Also, if it's rebuilt there should be some indication on the unit and it's price would be considerably less than a new unit.

Got the car back today

Just picked up my X from the stealer today; they actually put in a rebuilt tranny but he said "all the internal parts are new" and "the work and the new tranny is guaranteed for an additional 2 years, regardless of when my CPO warranty expires (which is next year)".

Car definitely shifts better, more aggressive, and the stealer did a complimentary detail for me. Hey, it's something right?

Anyways, I was wondering if it would be worth it in the long run to hold onto my X (2001 4.4i) and purchase an aftermarket/extended warranty or dump it and get a 4.6/4.8? Suggestions are appreciated!

" Have the same prob with my 2001 4.4i sport "

Reverse gear has gone completely now but mine went out gradually. Definately felt like it was the clutch slipping TIS reckons that the reverse gear clutch in the gearbox is knackered and recomends " replace transmission " my cars out of warranty and i have been quoted 1650 sterling for a re-con !!

P.S my car has only done 45000 miles

I remember reading a few threads about this on another board. New tranny! Lucky you before CPO expired and an extra 2 years to break it again.

Agreed! And after market non-dealer alternatives are not too easy to find. Which tranny do you have?
