Hesitation when pulling off

Hi, I have a new 2006 X5 3.0 diesel that has covered 6000miles. A number of times now, when pulling off the engine revs but the car hardly pulls until you use the kick down and then it rockets off. The dealer can't find a fault. (nothing new there then) Anyone else come across this problem?

Sounds like a transmission problem!Still, since the dealer cant find a fault,I suggest you go back to the dealer and try another X5 3.0 Diesel(can be a used car but Automatic!)and simply compare the two!If the "other" 3.0 Diesel rockets off the line in normal "D",then the dealer has to admit that theres something wrong with yours!

I have a Auto 2003 X5 3.0 Diesel and mine,even before I did some engine mods,used to rocket off the line(well.for a 2 ton car ,anyway!)

same here

mine does the same thing especially when cold. i've gotten used to it . just wait a couple of secs and it will kick in - it's like the transmission is still warming up. it only happens after i back out of the garage and put it in drive for the first time. if i rev to hard it does lurch forward . IT is as if my x5 is saying "give me a chance to wake up!"

Thanks guys, however I may not have explained my problem very well. I am not intending to fly of the line, but instead accelerate at a more average pace. The car doesn't respond as it should and instead of progressively increasing speed, it moves forward at only 2 or 3 mph. As this has happened when joining fast moving traffic, this has left me no choice but to floor it. The engine is warmed up when this happens.

As I said, arrange with the dealer to test another auto X5 Diesel.

This doesn't sound right.
There will always be acertain amount of lag when pulling away, especially with a heavy diesel automatic, but it should progressively increase in speed.

As Powers1 said, the only real way to satisfy yourself is to try another car.
There have been a couple of reports here about issues with gearbox software, this may be worth looking into.

The software issue may be one to ask the dealer about. As for knowing the car, this is the 3rd X5 3.0d I have owned and what is happening is not right. The problem is not constant so driving another X5 will prove nothing.
