ICV mechanical Failure check engine light

Got a CEL and engine failure pop up light (not quite limp mode) for Idle Control Valve mechanical failure.

Pulled the ICV and it rattles just fine, sparayed carb cleaner and reinstalled. Did notice that the rubber connecting port has a bit of a split lip.

Drive it 50-60 miles, code came back.

Question: if the valve rattles freely shouldn’t it function? Does it pull a vaccum and the split hose be the culprit? Anything else?

I had a problem with my ICV throwing codes a couple years ago. I pulled it and it rattled fine. I cleaned it thoroughly and put it back it. Just like you, it was ok for awhile then started throwing codes. I replaced it with a new one and haven't had the problem since. Probably something to do with the internal electrics.

Thanks. I have a cheap aftermarket one, Probly throw it in when I can get time. And/or clean the contacts some.

OP It would help a lot if you could post teh code you got with the engine fail saFE i presume,,,and any updates on that aftermarket ICV you put in?
