Keys (noob question)

Hi all,
Recently broke the barrell on the door of my 02 X5 (UK Version) and am looking at getting a new key for the remote locking.

If I grab this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3BUTTON-R...72.m2749.l2649

and put in my current transponder chip (little black rectangle loose in the current key) then go through the remote locking programming (on to run, off, hold unlock and hit lock 3 times)

Would this remove the requirement to have the 'key' programmed? I'm assuming the actual programming would be for the transponder to start the car?

Sorry for the newbie question I'm just getting used to the new ride!

TIA
Nathan
