No start after transmission repairs..

That's why I included a screenshot from the parts diagram showing the one dowel and 9 flywheel bolts. The dowel may have come off when you removed the flywheel, or it may still be on the crank, but if it was still on the crank, I don't know how you ever got the flywheel to seat right.

There is still a slight chance that the flywheel is on properly. I remember matching the paint mark on the bolt. It actually makes me think the previous person who opened up the transmission dropped the dowel and ended up putting a mark on the flywheel instead. Even if that is the case, after replacing the crankshaft sensor, why would the car keep dying after running briefly? I have to put the timing lock on the flywheel and check to see if the timing mark on the crank matches the one on the engine.


I wish there was a way to reprogram the timing by telling the computer where the 'new' timing mark is without touching the flywheel. It would be very easy to do it for me as a programmer..

You can see the smaller hole in the flywheel that is not in line with circle for all the other flywheel bolts. The dowel hole does not protrude through the thickness of the flywheel. I know this is for a N62 engine and you should have the M64, but it should be pretty close.

Do you remember seeing a hole for the pin in the crank? Or do you have any pictures of the back of the crank?

Base on 9 bolts in a circle each bolt is 40 degrees apart. You could be 40 degrees advance or 40 degrees behind. I don't think the engine will run if the timing is out more than that.

Alternatively,did you miss the timing pin hole? You may have just set it off a bit if you locked the crank in the wrong place. I've put the pin in-between the spokes before. I always test the crank move either direction after pinning.

I will raise the car tomorrow, put the pin in and look to see if the mark on the engine is aligned with the crank. I have talked to a mechanic and he told me it's 10 hours of labor they charge (around $1000) to take the transmission out / in to reinstall the flywheel. I may just choose that option and hope that the rebuilt transmission works as well afterwards. I do not want to go back to the garage I rented since it was not a good experience..

So I may have very interesting news. I matched the timing marks on engine (OT) and the crank (The one on the engine is something like 10-11 o'clock position?) and the pinhole on the transmission also perfectly is across from the one on the flywheel. I am thinking the timing is good then? Here is an illustration of where the mark is on the engine and the photo of the bolt I used to match the hole on the flywheel..


What do you guys think?

I think you may be good base on the pictures you posted. Now if you haven't remove the spark plugs, remove all 8 plugs, if you have compress air shoot compress air into the cylinders to dry out any gasoline in the cylinders and replace all 8 plugs with new plugs.

All the spark plugs are actually new so I will just do a cleanup tomorrow. I also need to use a jump start module since battery is around 10V and the car does not start.

Right now, I get the A2 error (Crankshaft/Camshaft position corrolation cyl #5-8). I have already replaced that side of the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor on the transmission. I will try to clear the error and start the car tomorrow..
