4.8is P0128, time for cooling system refresh?

I have started getting this CEL consistently now, is it just the thermostat that needs replacing? currently the temp needle always looks good right i the middle with no over heating

i bought my 4.8is 2 years ago @ 109k miles and currently have 130k and have had a great time with it. seems like its time for some maintenance now.

entire cooling system is stock.

i had hoped when i went to FCP euro site that clicking on the cooling system group for my car would show a nice little cooling system bundle that would make it easy but they dont. im used to that when it comes to the e46.

is there a list of the parts I need to get to do a complete cooling system refresh including water pump, radiator, hoses, expansion tank etc?

i also saw on facebook groups some people replacing a pipe under the intake manifold and then they mention that that pipe is included with the intake manifold gasket kit and its not part of the normal cooling system refresh.

does this mean i should place on doing some type of intake manifold gasket maintenance as well to get to that pipe too?

thank you very much for the help

Not knowing your specific year or build date this is just one link but should be close, pop out to REALOEM.com and put in your information and you'll be able to get an exact diagram, then put those numbers in FCP Euro and you'll be good to go.

I'm putting together a list here of parts I believe I will need and should do while in there. Adding items as I go and hoping to get any insight from someone who has done this before.

I may not replace it if it isn't leaking but I would probably buy an expansion tank and level sensor just to have on hand, at 119,000 miles if your's hasn't given up the ghost yet, it's in borrowed time... everything else looks solid. That said, while you have the entire front assembly apart you may want to go ahead and clean your vanos solenoids and replace the o-rings, will be two large o-rings and two small o-rings, pretty cheap and very easy while you're in there. For $25 bucks +\-, you may want to grab a vacuum pump rebuild kit as well and possibly, proactively replace the vacuum tube running from the pump to the brake booster. If that one way valve fails it will (can) suck oil into the brake booster and then you're up dooh dooh creek...

Thanks. Just added a few more items including the expansion tank, level sensor as well as the t-stat for the trans cooler. I'm planning to go the AGA pipe route so I don't have to take the front end apart but have thought about replacing any o-rings up front to be proactive, as you say. I just replaced the vacuum tube to the brake booster this past summer...because it was clicking. But may as well rebuild the vacuum pump, too. Do you have a kit you would recommend?

It already appears as though my vanos solenoid valve o-ring is leaking. So I'll plan on that as well.

so i take it on the 4.8is N62 engine, it doesnt make sense to replace just the thermostat by itself? Can i replace just the thermostat for now or does the water pump need to come off as well at the same time?
