You're the one that falsely accused me of calling your X a piece of junk when it was CapeX5 that made that comment. In that post, I just pointed out your attitude toward CapeX5 when he replied to your post. I even posted a link to that post so everyone will see who is making crap up. But you never replied to my post with the link because you will have to admit you made a mistake. Quote:

At the beginning of the OP original post, he admits that he doesn't know what he is doing. So you tell him to get an amp clamp which he probably doesn't own or know how to use. His money will be better spent on bringing the X to a tech, instead of buying tools that he will never use later.

See you misunderstand how this works For someone to have HATERS they would first need to have FANS. You're not trying to convince yourself that ANYONE is jealous of you are you?? People just don't like you. Period. There's a noticeable difference. |

I think you need a "Time out" from the moderator for your use of offensive language against another member. FYI She is a He.

Ok friends, thank you all for the great advice! Had to sift through a lot of the BS but the great advice that some of you have posted has given me much needed hope.
So here is where we are now. The original problem car going into limp mode and then car would not start at all with purchase of new battery, this from the prior owner. Well I unplugged the abs and bought a new battery. Both original problems fixed. Presently I am getting that huge current draw, error codes p0741 and p1870. When accelerating from stop has trouble getting out of 1st and 2nd after that fine, the battery light will flick on and off randomly while driving. Check engine light is on. I have a hunch that alternator is bad which I have thought from the beginning but could be wrong. I will test as most of you suggested by taking that B+ off. My first worry is that transmission, I am assuming and hoping it is the TCC solenoid. If I can get the transmission working I will then move on to the current draw problem. Is this the right solenoid? https://www.amazon.com/ATP-JE-8-Auto...me=2002+BMW+X5 Once again Thanks a bunch and will keep you updated as things progress. I was so down and out about this but this board has made it exciting again!!! |

So what should the OP do? Pay someone to do the work? Give up and sell? Or he could just burn his car for insurance.... If only someone here had experience in THAT area. Sent from my SM-A730F using Tapatalk

Short info is to not worry too much about anything with the transmission, etc. while you know you have electrical problems. If you do have a transmission problem, fixing it will not fix the electrical problem. But fixing the electrical problem might fix everything else. I would do all of that without even shifting out of park. I would first figure out what the current draw is when the key is not even in. Do you have a 3.0i or a V8? Charging light indicates you are not charging, but that would not explain the high current draw directly, unless there is a problem in the alternator that is causing the draw. Pretty simple tests can be done before you replace more parts.

Glad you are seeing you though the BS and the *helpful* members of XO that actually *like* X5 will help you. Nice spin on turning lemons into lemonade. Don't worry about transmission it's a symptom not a cause. Blinking battery light is the primary system of bad Alternator but that could be a symptom of a short. Have you monitored real-time voltage? If you get any voltage dip below 12 you can expect any error on any system and the hard shifts are completely normal once the transmission decides it's not getting proper voltage. I don't think you've informed us which motor you have but on the 3.0 you can disconnect the alternator from the battery by removing the B+ terminal. You can then measure Ω from the cable inisde the engine bay to ground that should be open. If y get a measurement. 12/10=1.2 Ω if that's the 10a draw. There are a set of fuses just in front of the battery you may not have checked to find the draw as well. It's easy to find constant faults so you will find it soon. It's the intemittent faults that will drive you crazy. One possibly to quickly track the fault is rather than measure current on each fuse leg; disconnect battery from both terminals and measure each fuse output to ground. Usually that won't work because of electronics but because feels like a short it would work.
