2004 4.4I N62 AC Compressor confusion...

Hey guys, hoping for some help here...

So the AC hasn't worked in my X since ive owned it and ive finally gotten around to diagnosing it. From what I can tell, The Coil isnt pulling the clutch in, and this is where the confusion starts. Its a Calsonic CSV717, which from what I've read isn't supposed to have a clutch, But i can confirm the front hub spins freely of the pulley, there is no continuity from the (single wire)Plug on the top side, And ISTA calls out "magnetic AC Clutch Fault" and troubleshooting within ISTA, attempts to cycle it in 2 second cycles. Also the climate control in the cabin is outputting voltage when demanded.

SO, Assuming that there is a clutch and it needs to be replaced, Why do all the cheaper listings for the CSV717 Coil for the 3.0L say they will not work with the 04-06 4.4I engine if the part is for the CSV717?

Another tool a home mechanic should have is a 12V probe. I have a Power Probe IV. It has great features. You have to be very careful using a 12V power source. I like to use to activate components. Two things are usually found. First, the part has failed. It won't power up. Second, either no power is going to it or a bad ground if found.

Have you checked pressure? Or put a vacuum on it?

My gauges will be here thursday but last week, I had it serviced with family. Without the compressor kicking on we weren't able to get all of the ~16 oz in, ended up with about 12 oz in. We were able to pull a solid vacuum on the system, and it hold. The voltage reported in ISTA across the HP sensor is 1.35-1.40 volts. I have a 12v test light but again the circuit is open across the coil, a coil should always have some kind of resistance reading or atleast a path to ground.

I guess a clearer question would be does anybody know why a 3.0l calsonic csv717 coil would not work on a 4.4i calsonic csv717 AC compressor?

Well ive decided to just bite the bullet, and i ordered the more expensive coil($60). will update when the part arrives. If anybody has a 3.0l coil laying around and would like to compare the specs and properties, so we can help other users, I'd like to know myself. If you measure all the dimensions and check the resistance reading across the coil, ill update the thread when mine arrives. Thanks

Is 4.4 compressor driven by the main belt? Or a smaller single belt like a 3.0i?

The AC compressor on the 4.4 is on a separate belt, by itself. Crank, AC, Tensioner. The coil dimensions are 96mm OD, 64mm ID of the Mag side, 45mm ID of the plate side, 29mm thick, 33mm overall thickness when you include the plate. Locating pins are nearly 180 degrees(175ish) apart. Coil resistance is 4.0 Ohms.
