Incorrect engine timing M62TU
Hi there!!
I am going insane with my E53 M62 2001. After my engine service (engine and Tranny completely removed and back in) INPA tells me that I do not have a Crankshaft sensor signal. So its cranking but not starting up. Also I noticed today that when the key in the ignition and ignition is on and the driver door is open there is no beep beep....shouldnt there be one?? I checked everything regarding the Crankshaft sensor....Crank sensor resistance is 629 Ohms, it generates 2Volts when cranking and the tone wheel is new. The wiring up to the DME is ok. Now I am wondering......if the engine timing is out, can it be that the engine gives you that error code. I was told in another forum in that case (engine timing off) it says crankshaft sensor spec out but it does not says "no signal". Does anybody know it for sure? Cheers |

Start with the basics; indications are the cpk is faulty. That's what the symptoms and error are. Odds the sensor new? If so try the old one.
The output is a square wave. You need to read with an oscope to see if the signal makes sense reading voltage only gives you some feedback also if like the other similar sensors the computer reads the milliamps and if not within a particular range it "doesn't exist" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Hi andrew!
Thanks for your reply mate!! Yeah well I tried it first with the old sensor and it wouldnt start (the old sensor worked until I took the engine out) and then I got one OEM from FCP with the same result. First I bent the flexplate while trying to undo the jesus bolt and replaced the flexplate with a new (used) one. The old one (which was bent in 2 spots, one of these spots was the elongated rectangular whole) was reading faulty according to my BMW dealer so I put another used one in. I had a good look at it and it was in good nick. I am digging into oscilloscope at the moment and see what kind of oscilloscope to get or what kind of software for my laptop. I got a good understanding what it does but need more info whats good for me. Cheers |
