Hi all, my audio stopped some time ago after a series of loud pops and the rest. I ended up replacing the head unit. The orange light comes on in the head unit but no sound. So I went and purchased a new amp without removing my existing one first (silly me). I now have a small amp unit (the original) and the replacement which is much larger that has dsp written on it. I thought mine was dsp as this showed up on my head unit display for nav. After taking the amp out from the side of the cargo bay, underneath the CD changer, I found that it was a different size and hence put it back.
Does anyone know if there are two audio amps in a 2005 E53 4.4i model? thanks

Dont worry about my original question. There is only one amp as indicated here

ok, so assuming transport mode is off. I had a look at the plug and socket of the amp and contrary to all the reviews saying water damage this one is as clean as a whistle and looks in good order. All my water drains are clear so no water damage.

Just had my radio module under the wheel in the cargo bay out and it is a 2005 BM53 module by Becker. Lifted the lid off it and it looks in really good condition as well. No visual appearance of blown output. So, need to get the diagnoses tool onto the car.

from you're saying it sounds like blown channels on the BM54 (the module under the spare wheel).
I recently had mine repaired but it only had one blown channel. Sounds like all of yours are gone though. |

Yes, it sounds like it. I am going to check the fuse in the glove box for a second time. Also, after i get my diagnosis software i will check someting else.

I replaced the bm53 with a module that works. No difference. The replacement nav/head unit works with nav. The radio stations appear and the orange light comes on when i push the volume control. I checked the glove box fuse no 7 but if that was blown i wouldn’t have any nav. This new head unit is a US unit. Does anyone know if I have to code anything for the radio to get the sound to work?

Finally! Replaced the correct radio amp and I have sound. So, the moral of the story it is either the radio amp or the bm53/54 module or both. Many posters don’t give their final solution which would be helpful. Ok, so now I have a spare bm53 module which is no drama as I will have one up my sleeve for when it eventually goes bad. Now onto the next problem.
