Need some tight bass on my beloved X5

Really enjoying my X5. Now I want a bit of some nice, tight bass - not loud, thumping crap, just some quality bass better than the stock subwoofer that I still have. I have the Avin head unit and the stock DSP. Is there a subwoofer that can directly replace the stock one that I have?

Thanks for any pointers.

Plenty of room in the e53 for this one...

I’ve added a kicker 10” powered sub to my setup. Pretty easy to do, but you’ll need to run RCA cables from your head unit. Although, I think the kicker sub can take speaker level inputs too. Easy to wire up and drops right into the right rear cubby. I was going to fabricate a mount, but ended up just setting it on some bubble wrap as it fits nicely down in the hole.

Power can come from the fuseable link box in the trunk, and you can tap into the amp trigger. Or it can be triggered by the rca signal. They make an 8” powered sub as well.

Awesome, just what I was looking for - a decent setup without too much modification ... thanks. How does it sound?

Is this what you have? It's got great reviews! https://www.amazon.com/KICKER-46HS10...8e6d374b3&th=1

One reviewer pointed out that when used with crossovers, the results are astounding. Is that your setup too?

That’s the one I have. I ran RCAs from my kenwood head unit dedicated pre-amp subwoofer outputs straight to the kicker. It sounds fantastic, especially because I didn’t have a sub in the car beforehand.

I was worried about noise from running the RCAs under the carpet since there are so many wires running around the floor, so I elected to run them over the roof when I had the headliner out over a year ago. They were just unused until I got around to buying the sub several months later. The other set of RCAs (for the front and read door speakers) got used a few weeks ago when I finally installed the kicker 4 way amp in the left rear cubby, and kicker speakers in the door.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m no audiophile, but the finished product sounds fantastic to me. Way better than my OE non-dsp sound system.

Cool. Where have you placed it? In the OEM sub space in the trunk?

yup, like many others with the 3.0i mine didn't come with any subwoofer so this adds an additional low that I love, not too annoying either!

Found a pic of how it fits in the cubby. I was planning on buying the 8”, it it’s not really much smaller than the 10” kicker. I’m sure you couldn’t go wrong with either size, and there are lots of manufacturers of similar sized powered subs.

The wiring in the cubbyhole is still a mess as I haven’t gotten around to cleaning it all up. I added the sub and the wiring for the backup cam, trigger, power tap, and the Sirius antenna I ran all run thru there.
