Thanks for the replies. I didnt know the buckle had to be in for the bypass to work, but even at this point, im still back to where i started, with the. F0 internal fault. cant clear any codes. I would consider getting the Foxwell scanner, but seems like a waste of money if it cant solve my problem. Guess ill send the second dud i got to be wiped and see if i can get it working with that one.

You've tried BMW Scanner 1.4 and INPA so far, but they didn't clear the fault code, so maybe it'd be worthwhile to get a Foxwell NTxx model (I suggest the NT710, or a cheaper one, the NT510 Elite, like mine). Even if it will not clear your code, maybe it would help you out as a proven bi-directional scan tool you can carry in the glovebox, as EODguy does.

My X5 has a production date of 12/2000.
