Did I do this! Fuel filter change...

Thought I'd do something constructive this evening after the storms passed.
Been having problems
(for over 5 years) with occasional hard starts decided it probably was a tired fuel pressure regulator on the fuel filter....never have been in this tank before on this car. Installment went smoothly. Until I discovered (see pic) a broken wire!
Did I do that! And if you look closely, I'd say it's cut! Or am I trying to avoid responsibility. The tan wire is one of two which comes off of the blue connector... searched for the other end no luck.
Am I in trouble?

Is that the fuel pump side? Should be four wires two big two small.

If your tank reads and the pump works I have a feeling it's an extra wire to what I have only guesses like PO hooked up a test lead for something.

Haven't had e53 pump apart in quite a while so it's possible I'm mis remembering.

You should be able to fish out the other end of that wire and splice it. Easiest splice is a Telefone butt splice they are weather resistant and you just squeeze the connector.

You can use test six to monitor the left tank in the meantime to determine fuel quantity. Once you get below 27L all the fuel is in the left tank anyhow.

The E83 (X3) tank doesn't appear to have the siphon, although it does appear to have the dual fuel level sender units - total volume is only 67l so maybe the left/right values will be very different?

Wires are blue rather than tan but otherwise, is this it?

Looks like you might need to remove the in-tank unit, to get at the fuel level sender. And it looks like the in-tank unit requires many steps to remove!

Can't be harder than changing that in-tank fuel filter though!

Can't thank you all enough.
I'm not feeling defeated (thanks to you guys) after reading the TIS... And experiencing the fuel pump opening on the e83... especially if I can get hold of that snapped end. But with these pics at least I have an idea as to WHERE to look.
my 1st thought is that I have to have X-ray vision.
