Is this a bad idea?

I have a nice 2003 Red X5 4.6. Low miles, runs well, a few items to detail out. All in all, it’s a nice X5. I also have a blue 2003 X5 with the 3.0 AND factory stick shift. Again, a solid X5, but not the comfort of the 4.6.

I can pick up a red X5 4.6 , also a 2003 for low cash. I would like to swap out these items to my Blue stick shift X5.

1) Uber comfort 12 way heated seats driver and passenger.
2) Uber nice REAR HEATED seats.
3) maybe a radio or headlights.
4) complete overhead headliner and all the fixins.
5) Maybe the front and rear door cards. They have peanut lights and shades.
6) Possibly both front and rear bumpers
7). Fender flares
8) A few trim pieces that might be in better shape.

HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION.

Is this going to be a coding and electrical snafu?
I’m really wanting to plug-n-play on this stuff.

Yes, I know about the relay for rear seat heat
And a few dash switches, and fuses.

Other than that will this be a complicated mess?

The radio and the lights are the only thing that might require some coding. Vehicles involved are all pre-LCI so wiring harnesses should be mostly similar if not identical. The lights might need some re-pinning?

Good luck. This sounds like something I would do... lol.

I really like those 4.6 seats. The ones on this clunker have wear spots on tbe edge.
Most leather guys say, can’t really fix that unless you start over. That’s cost prohibiting to me. Unless there is some way you fine folks know how to address the worn black dye
and have it not transfer to wife white mini skirt. My biggest concern is what yo do with the chassis after I gut it. No title, no salvage yard will touch it.

Re-dyeing can be done by an old school hatter, they have special dyes for leather hats that don't bleed from sweating.

I haven't totally been following this post...but maybe what I'm considering just might be helpful to you.

I have already switched front seat bottoms between driver and passenger.
I have been to the boneyard and found a perfect leather back seat bottom. My current back seat bottom is fine but not leather.
I'm thinking of removing the leather covering and simply reattach/re-stretch it to my current backseat bottom. The material is just pinned down by clips and possibly stapels.
I expect there will be a good deal of elbow grease involved.

How was the seat bottom swap? I want to do that with mine as the driver's side has a major heater hot spot that will burn if on too long. Is it as simple as clipping the hog rings and switching them? In th epast I used small zip ties in place of hog rings (I hate those things).

Yeah hog rings are a pain.
Like most BMW Jobs takes patience and attention to details. You've definitely have to remove seats from the car... disconnect that battery for starters.

Yep, they are. I've put new seat covers on a few cars/trucks over the years, and my go-to fasteners are zip-ties. They last forever, never rattle around, and you don't have to fiddle with the crummy pliers.
