3.0D Exhaust revisited

Did anyone get closure on the fact that the OEM 4.8IS exhausts may be a straight bolt on job to the 3.0D, to replace the hidden rear exhaust system on the diesel?
Pipes same size?
Stainless steel?
Thanks.

So is it possible to expose the exhaust tips easily then? am i right to think thats what your suggesting?? Give me more information if thats the case!

Not bothered about exessive smoke at the rear.. only time i will be bothered is when i go in reverese at full throttle.. and cant see that happening much ha.

Dont think the 4.8is exhaust is straight bolt on to the 3.0Diesel!The 4.8is has middle resonators, the 3.0 Diesel doesnt! But this shouldnt be problem!Out of all the factory exhausts this is the more cost effective(some 300usd less than the 4.6is!),however,
still waiting for someone to try the exhaust and give us someback on smoke and performance! The objective here is mainly for the"look" with hopefully no loss in performance and no excessive smoke.

Is the Remus a straight bolt on system, no welding?
From their site,
I think the exhaust tips now point straight out rather than canted upwards.
See.............

the photo for the x5>2003 and the x5 2004> is the same!!!!I know that on the pre-2004 X5s ,the tips point up!the photo in the Remus catalogue could also be from a 4.4????
Dont think they have changed the exhaust!

Just got confirmation from the Remus importer here and he has confirmed that
Remus have NOT changed the exhaust for the 3.0 Diesel! It will still look like my attached picture!!!!!!!!
Supersprint do a choice of silencers with tips.
Personally,I am more inclined to go for the 4.8is.............................

Ok this might sound silly but .... if you dont ask you never know right.

If there is no way to have exhaust tips exposed on the 3.0D then here comes the big question

Q: If you only want the exhaust tips showing for the look. Is it not possible to have Artifical tips showing. Just for the look! I kno its not ideal but would make the X5 3.0D look a tiny bit better from the rear!!
Is there room to have unfunctioning tips exposed? Does such a product exist?
This way you wouldnt have any problems with exessive smoke or performance differences?

True.........its an alternative! It is possible and I can do it!As I said in an earlier post,
with slight mods you can even re-direct the exhaust flow from the pipes pointing down
to come through the holes on either side. This just involves some cutting and welding(no problem with rust if you use stainless steel tubes +welds) and with a short pipe and a 90deg bend pipe you now have your exhaust pipes pointing outwards and its now a matter of choice on which tips you prefer to weld on....................
There are quite a lot of alternatives. The problem being that we dont have enough information! The only feed back I have is from a guy who fitted the REMUS and although he is happy with the performance ,he desliked the look of the Chrome tips and also because as they were pointing upwards and redirected the smoke onto the rear.Dummy tips would look silly on an X5..............

If you want to go for the Dummy(artificial) tips ,its very easy..........You remove the plastic covers on either side and weld on your favourite tips directly to the silencer....easy........................!Now you have the look with the engine stopped.
Once you start it up ,you will have smoke coming out of the bottom of the car and your dummy tips will always be clean. So,it will be a good idea to paint them black on the inside to give them a more realistic look!

Since no one has given any more feedback on this subject,I have made a decision and ordered from BMW the oem 4.8is rear silencers to fit on my 3.0 Diesel. As can be seen from the pics the silencers are completely different!I have chosen the 4.8is silencers as these are more cost effective(I got mine with 20% trade discount for 685 euros(822 usd) so I think I got a good deal!
I decided to do this on a "blind" basis ,since I have no info on the "insides" of the 4.8is silencers!Does anyone know if the 4.8 has restrictive or absorption silencers.Does anyone know what the inside of this silencer looks like? Are there any bends to restrict the gases(restrictive type) or is it just straight through(absorption type)?Looking at the pict of the 4.8 silencer next to the 4.4,it looks bigger! But the guy who fitted on his 4.4 didnt report any fitting problems,so it should also be ok to fit on mine!
Since I have facilities to tig weld in stainless,I am prepared to open up a silencer to see the inside piping, but I was hoping someone out there would let me know!Anyone????REALLY APPRECIATE ANY INFO FROM THE 4.6/4.8 GUYS.........Many thanks
I am about to find out why the magnet stuck to the tips of the 4.8 silencers !!!!!!(magnet doesnt stick to stainless!!)
