Please post your findings here and any problems you ran into, I have been trying to decide which way to go for a month now !! I have looked at the rear boxes from Remus but just wasnt sure, if you have an easy time putting the 4.8is rear boxes on your 3.0d then I will order the same immediately !! if you have the time to do a little right up on the process (as you sound like you have the experience and the tools / facilities) you followed that would be great and very much appreciated !!!

hope to see another thread soon titled '3.0d with the rear looks of a 4.8is!!!'

regards

W.

I am working in Portugal and at the moment(see top right corner of my postings???)but I reside permanently in the U.K.

Ordered the 4.8 mufflers last Friday(22.7) and they are coming from Germany, unlike most of the other oem accessories I ordered from my car which come from Spain.

It makes one wonder, WHO in BMW design decided to hide the exhaust on the diesel X5 when the likes of Audi & Mercedes and others have them proudly on display.

Unkile the Petrol X5s, the 3.0D silencers have an interior "loop" design (to increase torque) ,they are also very short ,so there isnt much space to bring the piping out through the holes on either side.Although we can change this!It may look prettier but overall not as effective or ecological! In a few weeks,I should have my silencers fitted and will then be able to make more conclusive comments.

I hate to jump in here late, but my daily driver is a Passat TDI(the X5 is my lovely wife's) - most TDI performance buffs just eliminate the muffler entirely. The turbocharger provides sufficient "silencing". Might be worth a try while you have the originals off.
