Yeah I'll ask them when it goes in this week for a check up and towbar fit.

When you say reprogrammed, what are you referring to?

When you guys indicate that you are'nt getting smoke, is that no smoke at all?
When you put the foot down does it drop a reasonable amount of smoke out the rear?

Thanks

reprogrammed,I mean the cars ECU file where you have the parameters for Fuel & boost have been optimized(increased).Generally, a reprogrammed car will smoke more than standard! When we accelerate hard, it is characteristic of Bmw Common Rail system to show a small puff of white smoke followed by a little black ,but only at that moment (it will not smoke under continuous hard acceleration). This applies to standard or reprogrammed cars.Reprogrammed cars with a lot of smoke under continuous hard acceleration, have been badly programmmed!!!!Mine, for example, has been done so as to only increase fuel pressure at the Rail when boost comes in.(this is how the major Bmw tuners do it,like Schnitzer,Hartge)

Hope to have my project done in a few weeks

Regarding the smoke in your car.would be interesting to see what your Bmw dealer says!.....................................

I'm running now with a schnitzer performance module and I have no smoke at all. Even when doing a kickdown. So I'm very happy as I have the mufflers from a 4.4i hanging at the back

well, it depends...sometimes I have a feeling that it really improved, sometimes, in other situations, I have a feeling that it's like it was before. I have to time some accelerations. I did one 0 -100 before it was always around 9.6, today the best I could do was around 8.4. But, it's not very reliable of course. I think I'll put her on a testbench....

Are you doing your runs in D or D/S mode(full performance here!)?
Bmw claim for the 2004 > 3.0 Diesel,0-100=8.3 but this is on 235/65/17 tyres
and I am not sure if this isnt for the Manual!Netherless, your 9.6 is way off!I know you have bigger wheels but theres still a big difference!
Could the 4.4 mufflers be slowing your car down?I am just trying to help because you sound disappointed and I am appreciative of your feedback.
The main reason why my exhaust project is taking longer than I wanted is because I need to open both mufflers(3.0D and 4.8)and study/change the internal piping to ensure that it isnt obstructive.Like you and a lot of us,we all want to have our exhausts exposed and our primary objective is not to gain power but not to LOOSE any!....
How do you compare the performance of you new X5 with the other one you had??....In theory a 184 bhp x5 "tuned" should have +/- the performance of a 218 bhp 2005 model.A 2005 "tuned" should really fly........THANKS for the feedback.

The 8.3 is for manual with 235 tyres. I have an auto box and 315 at the rear. Plus I think that the bmw tests are done with standard equiped cars. If you have a fully loaded X5, then I guess you're at least 100-150kg heavier. And it's also the best run they did. I raced a few X5's and and always stayed foot with them, so I think it's normal (prior to putting the acs module). I will ask my dealer tomorrow whether the 4.4i pipes are more restricitive on the diesel. I might schedule a run on a testbench to see what the situation is. Also, my car has now only 11K on the clocks (5 weeks of ownership) so it's quite new. Maybe it needs to loosen up a bit.

I have fitted 4.4 V8 quad tip silencers to my 3.0 diesel with only a little engineering/welding work on the pipes to keep the back pressure closer to standard. You have to cut one of the standard dual pipes because it is continuous from the cat back. By welding a smaller pipe (about 10cm) just inside the the joint with the V8 silence pipes can cause a blow-back at low RPM resulting in enough back pressure to keep the turbo and the engine management computer happy. The 4.4 V8 quad tip silencers are more free flowing than the 3.0 diesel so you will loose take off torque but gain it at high RPM speeds if you just bolt them on. My X5 now doesn't look like it runs on batteries anymore and performs better at low and high speeds. I have been meaning to post the mod and will post soon with pics of the work.

Cheers,
Aussie-X5
