Considering this thread was revived a couple days ago from 2006, and the user who made the original post hasn't been active since 2009, I'm not sure it really matters....if he even has his X any longer

Nick! I knew it! I was going to post something on your manual 4.6 thread about a S85 V10-swap a few weeks back. I thought you had *something* up your sleeve. You'll have to throw a teaser our way....

There's other projects in way, but the S85 E53 will be AWD and 6-speed manual. We studied all possible difficulties - custom AWD oil pan with front diff mountings, which will support the S85's standrad lubrication system, steering, headers, cooling system and so on - and it will be done for sure!

Next pictures will be about Z3 Coupe with M60B40 with ITB - hope to finish it till middle aprill, after that we'll put the supercharged M62B44 with Woessner pistons and S62 crank in to my 4.6is MT, the 4.6is engine will be sold with RWD oil pan as whole. For now I got a brand new unused 4.4L block and brand new S62 crank with rods.

I usually don't reply to question/"cry fo help" if there's not enough info given. We should make info in sig mandatory when signing up.

Did you look into keeping the SMG at all?

I went to a local BMW performance shop to tell me what the engine will handle.
The 4.6 already had all the stage 3 and Dinan mods. If you are going to push a lot more air in you need to provide for that as well as low restriction exhaust to get it out.

The shop costed out a custom twin turbo system for my 4.6is. It was in the 6 grand range. I also got a quote from STS turbo. They are a long way away, would take 2 weeks and they were not that familar with BMWs. I elected not to go that route because it was going to take 2-3 weeks without my daily driver from either source.

I went the nitrous route with a 150 shot, 3 day install, about have the cost. Any strain on the bottom end is only when I use it. Nitrous will only come on at full throttle. I have all the safety features available plus methanol injection system.

Most of the posts will advise against it but it has been installed since spring, I use it fairly frequently and the performance gain is GREAT and much I would have gotten with a twin turbo system or supercharger.
