unless you find a crashed X5 at a junkyard w/a pano roof and cut it at the pilars, I would not even try to get a quote from a BMW dealer.

What a bunch of great guys you really are! (sarc)

1. I only asked the question to have a reasonable answer. Who knows it might have been as simple as changing a few panels or not. I'm not a car expert. Ask me a computer question and I could make you look like a dumbass too, but I won't because I have respect forthe fact that not everyone can be an expert on EVERY subject!!!

2. It has NO sunroof

3. I CLEARLY stated UK not US (the union jack flag in my profile also serves as a clue, duh!!!)

4. If I put the chassis no into ETK it comes up as a 4.8is

5. If I put the chassis no into Viewdata it comes up as a 4.8is

6. It was the ex-demo used by the son of the guy the local BMW dealership belongs to (and is named after). And yes it is a full-blown BMW dealership

7. (LeMansX5) Obviously NOT ALL 4.8is comes with the pano sunroof

Thanks for your help and encouragement anyway guys. I now know not to bother in the future!!!

Pictures pretty please. I just can't imagine a 4.8 with no sunroof at all. You may have the only one in existence.

Hey hvissor4, or whatever your handle is, not everyone here is an expert either. You ask a question or make a comment on this board you can expect a little of everything from everyone. It's a given. Take it with a grain of salt and move on.

As far as you being an expert on computers, I don't care. And, probably no one else on this board does too.

Now, regarding your panoramic sunroof: I believe it's obvious no one here knows how to, has never done it before and wouldn't attempt it. So, just admit that you purchased the wrong X and now you're having buyer's remorse.

That's too bad.

Got to remember most of the members are in the USA and the X5 line up of options is different in the US to the rest of the planet even though the vehicle is built here.

I have seen many post where members are amazed by the options, a few that come to mind are;

1. Nappa Leather on a 4.4i
2. The different leather options (colours)
3. The fact that the 1st X5's in Europe had the roof rack as an option
4. Engine warmers - remote controlled at that!

I am sure other members can add many more. We are just curious and amazed at the various types out there and also the fact that no one has asked about retrofitting such a complex piece of the original vehicle into a vehicle that does not have the Pano roof option.

I remember in the 70's it was easy for the pop ups but with all the paint, electronics and the tolerances involved its kind of like trying to tune up a 286 processor with a Pentium 4 Duo, it just is too expensive and you may as well replace the machine!

My $0.02. Hope it helps.

It was my understanding the the 4.8is only come with the pano-roof, but even if I am wrong it will be very $$$ to put one in.

We all stand corrected on the UK version of the 4.8 having a Pano-roof standard. Actually in the UK it is a 1170 option. Surprising yes.....however the original poster still over-reacted like a goober.

build one and you'll see.

Hey hvisser4, you should really lighten up a bit. I really didn't detect a lot of sarcasm in the responses at all, and even so, it's just for fun to add a bit of spark here. I'm sure there was no mal-intent at all. It's clear that the overwhelming opinion is that adding a pano roof would be more trouble than it's worth - especially from a structural integrity perspective. I suspect that X5's with pano roofs have reinforcements within the body structure to keep the vehicle solid around the glass as any flexing in that area could be both disastrous and dangerous. Also, obviously we're also curious to see what the inside of the roof looks like in a non-pano 4.8 - so how 'bout some pics? We're really a friendly bunch, really.... GL with whatever you decide!
