Yeah, that's the one I saw, but it didn't say anything about the prep work for it.

prep work?
i did this mod myself and its pretty straightforward. MY only reference is that article
1. remove grill / insert
2. clean
3. paint, allow drying between coats
4. re-install
5. enjoy

Goodluck! You can do it!

Thanks!

I saw somewhere on this forum where a guy said you had to sand them down and do some extra prep work before painting.

I'll use a primer and apply a couple coats. Thanks again and I'll post pics.

I was in your position a few months ago. I ended up buying the titanium kidneys for 70 bucks to avoid the hassle of painting. Now the vent you have to paint since they don't make it for models under 04. I had to redo mine because after removing, cleaning, primer, and painting it...it was a bit rough and dirt dried with it. The second time around it was good. I was going to sand it also, but there's no need. Here's what you do.

Clean grill with soap.
Make sure it's dry (blowdry after dry wipe) or you will have bubbles.
Apply primer twice on both sides
Apply paint four times on each side (ten minute intervals)
Apply clearcoat twice on each side

Voila! Titanium vents.

You don't need to sand down. Some people do. One of my friends used the spray paint color match at the auto parts store with a coat of primer and three coats of paint with clearcoat mixed in and has lasted him over 2 years.

It doesn't hurt to try to paint it...if ne thing then you could just buy the actual one from the dealer...and if the paint chips it will take 20 minutes to repaint!
