2006 X5 Satelite Radio Question

Just traded my 2000 528 for a new (2006) X5 3.0 and need to get satelite radio installed. I got the dealer to throw in the Sirius hardware and labor for cost, but I really would rather have XM. Here is my question:

1. Is the non DSP/Nav head unit Satelite ready? I was told the vehicle was prewired for Sirius, whatever that means. The salesman kept telling me they have to take out the head unit and install a different one that is satelite ready. I can't find any info to back this up.

2. Can I connect the Pioneer XM radio that worked in my 2000 528 (connected to the CD changer wiring)? The business cd head unit controlled the Pioneer but didn't allow me to save presets. I installed this unit in 30 minutes and it worked great! I really like to listen the PGA Tour on XM and Sirius doesn't have this channel so if there is a way to get the XM to work that would be great.

Thanks for the help!

Here's what you need... It works like a charm, and it takes about 5 minutes to install: XM direct with a BlitzSafe BMW harness. I have installed this unit a couple of times, and it works just like the factory Sirius system. Everything is controlled by the factory radio and all data is displayed on the radio screen -- even the presets work. You can still have a CD changer if you want. I can get them for $200 if you are interested. ([email protected])

Also, you r radio is already "satellite -ready", you DO NOT need a new radio...

Kelly,

Are you 100% positve that the Blitzsafe unit is comaptible with the 2006 X5? I saw on http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzbmwminisld00.html
that this is not compatible if you have BMW Assist, which I do.

Also, can you explain an easy way to locate the CD changer cables? I don't have a changer installed so it may take some searching for the connectors?

Thanks,
Bear

Also, go to the Blitzsafe site. I think Bear is right. I could not get Xm for my 2006.

I have the Blitzsafe product as part of my XM Direct device. I have a 2005 X5 with BMW Assist/Bluetooth built-in. It all works fine. I got it here. I know the write-up doesn't mention X5's past 2004, but it does work fine.

I know if you have the navigation system, the system I have won't work. Similarly, I think it won't work with iDrive.

I have not put it in an '06, but it works fine in 05's w/Bluetooth and Assist. I can't imagine that they would change the radio to that degree for the last year of a model run...

As for the connectors -- they are in the cargo area driver's side-compartment (at least in the USA) and are usually wrapped up -- including the ends -- in a black fabric tape on the floor of the compartment. They might be tucked in with other wires. There will be 2 connectors. One is a 6-pin and the other is a 3-pin, both have a rectangular head.

Statdoc is right -- it will not work w/Nav radios.

Put it in and it works perfect. Total install time = 20 minutes.

Thanks for the help!
