went with the offroad look on my x5.. havent seen any others like it really.. small wheels, big meaty tires and fender flares. If there was a lift kit, id be all over it!

Someone on here had a photochop of an X5 with mud tires on it and it looked awsome. Maybe someone who remembers the link could post it here....

BlackIce,
I suspect the dearth of true off roading mods one sees is due to
the fact that few take their Xs farther off road than the "shoulder",
coupled with the innate resistance to hauling azz through the brush
and rock filled "off road" runs, with one's $60-70G+ car.

Resurrected an old thread from a few years ago, but that X with those tires and exhaust excite the redneck in me!

A couple years ago another talented redneck BMW tech and myself really looked over the suspension on my truck and figured out exactly what would need to be done to lift it about 3", which would look awesome to someone like me. And I have been contemplating that ever since. We'll see what the future holds for my baby once it's paid off and not my daily driver as I would still love to have the worlds first lifted mud truck X5. (I'd might go so far as to put lockers and disable DSC depending)

A few years back someone had posted pic of their X5 with 15 or 16" wheels and all beefed up for off-roading.

What about X5 rally vehicles? I guess these have been so heavily modified that the only original part is the outer body shell.

It has a unibody, and is basically a big car. Not exactly designed for offroad, but that doesn't mean you can't make it look like it is.

It doesn't even have a transfer case! Some of the things that bummed me out when getting mine. Coming from someone that's had 10 jeeps

If you lift more than two inches.. You'll need a completely new suspension, or your camber will be ridiculously positive. All in all its definitely not made to take a pounding. But then again it seems that most lifted vehicles like this never really make it offroad.
