I don't recommend using the headlights trick after turning off the vehicle. When I found this out, I would do it all of the time. But, I have had to replace both of my headlights. The nature of xenon's, it is not recommend to constantly turn them on and off. They will wear out faster, and reduce the life of the bulb. I can't find the reference to this, possible the owners manual?
(Edit)
Found it, Page 176 of the owners manual.

Pictures of the flashlight socket and flashlight from a 2003 X5 4.4i are attached. Images are looking into the empty glove compartment; the black "carpeted" areas are the inside surfaces of the glove compartment. Image one is the empty socket, in the extreme upper left corner. Image two is the socket with flashlight installed. Image three is the flashlight itself, in case you have one sitting somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Stash Spot
All X5's have the best place to hide stuff in the shifter cover. Look at the tutorial on how to remove the center consol and it will tell you how to get it off. With no tools it pops off and you can hide everything in seconds. The stuff doesnt get lost or fall down the sides or anything like that. This saved my butt on a few occasions.

Well you are right, att the same time i want to ad that xenon are used as daytime running light in EU, whitch basicly means that they go on every time you start a car.
The only car that i have replacd the blub is my E46 320D, however i had the car for about 3 years, before that happend.

You can easily do this yourself. A little simple Google searching turned up this information:

E53 - X5 from 1999 - on: Part Number: 63 31 8 377 862 or Part Number: 72 60 8 360 066

Not sure if this was mentioned but I just found it: When you go to close your rear hatch, there are two holes on the inside of the door for your hands to pull down on. Look on the inside of the hatch. That way, you don't have to put fingerprints on the paint when you close the door!

I believe this is on the new model X. The E53 doesn't have this function.
