I can't say enough about the X

I'm from San Diego and decided to drive up for thanksgiving to visit the folks in Tacoma. I drove through slush, ice, snow, rain, curves, etc....I've never felt at one with the road with any other ride I've ever owned.
I was doing 100+ through the grapevine and it was unreal. I had a grin the whole time and was able to justify my monthly payments.
My wife even mentioned how I should post on here and tell people that you don't fully realize the value of the X until you go on a long drive (it took us 22 hrs due to L.A. traffic and Mt. Shasta bottle neck). The comfortability, the smoothness, the turns, etc...She doesn't even want to drive her FX anymore after this one (we took turns on the drive).
It literally hugged the road and the engine was smooth the whole way. It truly was a driving experience. The craziest part was when I dodged a truck that slammed into another vehicle while going 85 mph. When I swerved to the shoulder, I felt like I was gaming gran turismo. It was truly impressive and saved our arses more than once during the trip.

I was a little annoyed getting passed up by a 750 series when I was already at 110 mph on a safe, clear straightway (should have bought the 4.8)

Also maybe it's just me, but I passed up a few cops going 88 mph and they completely ignored me. One cop even had the radar gun pointed straight at me. This is unusual since Oregon cops tend to have little tolerance for us California speed demons. The wife had a theory that the X looks illusionary slow hence the blind spot

Great story! Yeah, my wife and I continually say how much we love the X for road trips.

I know how you feel. Just got my X5 about a month ago and just took it for a little road trip to Austin (about 3 hours) and this vehicle is amazing. Will definitely keep it for a long time!

Happy holidays fanatics!

Oh please let me sing while you preach to the choir. Maybe just maybe there's someone who dissagrees but it's that highway experience that keeps me thinking about this. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/g...my-bmw-x5.html

The X5 is an excellent ride. It's a collection of subtle pieces of greatness that add up to a totally great car. It tracks the road so well that it take less effort to drive. This is hard to describe, but you show up more refreshed after a long ride in an X5 than most cars, let alone SUV's. My wife loves the X5 too. I bought her a M3 so when she borrows the X5 I don't feel so bad about the trade.

I'm just glad that I bought the X5. I always find reasons to get out of the house so I could drive it and definitely with forums like this, it's definitely worth it!

I can agree with this statement. After 18mo. driving an FX45 I had enough. Yes the FX45ers can brag about the 0 to 60 times, compared to the X5 4.4 ,but that's about all. The gas mileage sucks as well as the ride, seats with switches, interior fit and finish, creaking from body flex, screaching brakes, engine with a death rattle etc.

Presently on a business trip driving a Chevy Trailblazer rental. HELP I'm having X5 withdrawal symptoms.

The X5 is the ultimate

I've noticed this too with my X3. I've passed a cop doing 100+ on I5, and he didn't seem to care. Perhaps they think, SUV = slow... then again I guess they've never driven an X

I agree with everyone re: BMWs and especially my personal experience with our 2001 X5.....just did a quick trip to Vegas & back this past weekend on I-15 and can't believe how smooth, quiet, fun, and great handling our X5 (w/ sports pack) still is and we just broke 143K miles this past weekend....this is coming from someone who also has a E46 M3!

We were climbing up hills and passing all these cars and handling the curves on I-15 and unless I looked at the speedo, I had no idea I was going over 100 mph!
