I seem to remember somebody having a problem with the universal joints in the column. Again, if memory serves, the dealer did a warranty replacement.

Well really we (notice I said we) are not going to sell X its paid for, so thats one plus. I would try doing it myself but It really is not cost effective for me to do it with the holidays and knowing that the car is needed for use. I Just don't have the time to take a day in trying it.

ITS JUST TO BUSY WITH A 16 MONTH OLD RUNNING AROUND AND WITH THE WIFE EXPECTING AGAIN!!!

Oh I did find a shop to do it for $275 labor.

X5 cv boots

Just picked mine up today, caught both front outer boots just as they started to split. Cost at outside shop was $425usd plus tax. I've done it before on my last x5, but without a lift its painful to do it on the ground

ok one more question. When you get the outer cv boot replaced is it a good idea to replace the inner boot as well?

Does that require alot more labor cost to do?

I would suggest replacing inner boots at the same time. Most of the work/labour is already done to get to the outer boot so the additional cost should not be too much, relative to having to replace the inner boots a few months down the road. Dealereship or indep. could break down the costs for you. I would assume that if your outer boots have split, your inner boots may not be far behind. Plus, now you have peace of mind knowing that all have been done.
Just my 2c worth

I just had mine replaced this week. I could detect some play in the steering wheel and brought it in on warranty. The steering is much tighter now.
