Changed Battery???

I use to have a 2001 Infiniti QX4 and i got rid of it with 192,000km and never had any issues with battery or altenator...I would have thought the BMW X5 would be much stronger and more durable than an Infiniti.

You're joking about the "turn your steering wheel all the way to the right and then all the way to the left. This restarts the computer and clears all the little lights on the dash board", right? I changed my battery recently with an Autozone battery and now the DSC, Antilock & Brake lights are on now after 300+ miles. I did the "turn the steering wheel thing" many times and the lights are still on. I called the stlr and they just laughed when I told them the "turn the steering wheel thing" and they said that's a myth - they explained that the Antilock brakes need to be recalibrated and setup after a battery change - about a 1 hour job. What's the real story - all I know is that ALL of the DSC and Antilock functions are definitely disabled when those lights are on the dash - fully tested in a recent snowfall and they definitely don't work!!!

The steering wheel thing is part myth and only is applicable to asc/dsc
when you are reseting the module. The dealer has to hook it up to the Dis and reset the adaptives and clear the faults about 15mins but 1 hour is the standard charge. They have bills and overhead to pay too...

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I don't have a problem paying the stlr for an hour of labor if the lights on the dash will go away and restore the antilock, DSC & ASC functions. I was just hoping there was some way I could do that myself - it's not about the money - it's just a pain to make an appointment at the stlr and then get there, wait, etc. Thanks again - I need to call them on Monday!
