Exhaust Upgrade!!

Can anyone tell me where to get a decent 4.8 look back box from and how much they go for?

I own a 02 3.0d sport and want to upgrade the exhaust to look like the 4.8.
Don't know what makes are the best fit or if it's worth having a custom one made.

I know people have tried different options but no real overall answers about the best result.

Any advise please?

If u upgrade the exhaust to something similiar to a 4.4i or anything that has the exhaust tip point horizontally out you will lose back pressure on the turbo and you will suffer greater turbo lag.

Theres a reason why the oem exhaust tip doesn't simply exit straight and down but curves back on itself.

If you insist on doing it let me know the results.

A very simple and inexpensive mod is to cut the existing exhaust tips and weld on a pair of aftermarket oval exhaust tips like these two tips from Magnaflow and Ractive:

Here are some links to pix and discussion of tip installations:

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...installed.html

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ed-w-pics.html

Expect to pay around $50 per tip + installation.

Magnaflow:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Ractive:
http://www.autobarn.net/raunextip.html

MagnaFlow
Inlet Inside Diameter (in): 2.250 in.
Width: 5 1/4 in.
Length: 7.250 in.

Ractive
Inlet Diameter: 2.250 in.
Width: 6 in.
Length: 8.500 in.

Please note - I noted the price incorrectly - it's about $50 per tip, not per pair.

The magnaflow probably have the right length, but would be a bit narrow for the opening. The wider ractive tip still won't be as wide as the 4.6/4.8, and it may be a bit too long for the application, but that can be easily taken care of.

A muffler shop quoted me $120 to $150 to remove my stock tips and replace them with these.
