Santib, you still running the OG tranny?
The trans was replaced at 75k for a check engine light condition. I have not been happy with the replacement trans shift quality, It has been checked a few times with not problems found. I do enjoy shifting with the M3 wheel with Paddles I installed though.

02 4.6is in the family with about 80k on it.

The front control arms were replaced under warranty at about 8k miles, rear taillights and instrument cluster at about 60k (good faith from the dealer), and the rear liftgate release at about 65k. Other than that it was trouble free. This past spring we took it in for some maintenance - new brakes, bushings, tie rods, lots of misc wear items. It was about $2800 to bring it back to 'as new' Now it is absolutely perfect again, like driving a brand new car. Absolutely amazing how solid it is.

One thing that does concern me is a slight vibration from the transmission at stoplights when it is in D. Will probably flush the tranny and see if it helps. Otherwise, like new. I am looking forward to buying a 4.8is for myself and hopefully have the same worry-free ownership experience.

Pic for reference:

Did you replace the torque converter or have it rebuilt when trany was replaced? 4.6iS torque converter is known to go bad at high mileage...often times causing damage to the trany.

'02, 4.6, just turned 103k miles. Runs like a champ. Engine was replaced at 37k (warranty). Things that I need to do... eventually....

1. Radiator has a small static leak when cold.
2. Have a slight clicking in left front wheel when turned to or near the left stop.
3. Tranny needs the 100k mile service, as per manual.
4. Repair the pixels. (they're still readable, but some are out..)
5. Spank wife for claiming not to know where the gas fill port is....

69k miles here on my 02.

- Trans replaced 1 week before warranty went out
- Dealer tried multiple times to get trunk rattle fixed to no avail with previous owner. I am going to replace the trunk release and see how it goes from there.
- Had the general module go with its active power steering controls. That was a PITA.
- Coolant overflow tank has micro crack.

Other than those issues, knock on wood, it's been great.

Edit: Forgot to mentino, the truck consumes oil at about a quart every 3k miles or so. Is that normal?

03 with 105K miles here. Running and driving great. Needs a new thrust bushing and a CV boot just split. Otherwise has been very solid. Alternator died at 90K, and around same time new oil pan and valve cover gaskets were done. I just replaced the spark plugs - no noticable difference btw, but the old ones looked trashed. most of the cooling system except radiator was done around 90K miles as well. Much of that work was done under CPO and all before I got it.

I swapped all the driveline fluids at 100K.

But I am not touching the trans. My 03 manual says lifetime fluid, which is still BMW's current recommendation as well.

02 4.6 at 50k.
Spark plugs, oil separator, valve cover gasket replaced and upper water hose replaced.
Otherwise running well.
I drive maybe 3k a year only, this has continued now 3 years.
I can see that it is not good for car to drive so little and only short trips.
Sometimes I take for a bit longer drive and after that you can see it starts better in cold mornings.
