Has anyone any experience with having the X5 remapped or chipped to achieve more power and torque.
I have a 2001 3.0d sport in the UK the power is retarded to 184bhp with 410Nm of torque. The standard ECU can be re-mapped to achieve the power which the X5 was originally meant to have when designed in Germany. This will take the power to 217bhp with 500Nm of torque. Has anyone had this done and does it improve the fuel consumption. I cant decide whether to do it or not. Thoughts anyone? |

I have a 2003 3.0d with a STEINBAUER P-Box it improves the power up to 212bhp and 468Nm of torque. I haven’t done the remapping for several reasons: - The gearbox cant take more than 500Nm of torque. - Each time you go to the dealer, BMW will reset the ECU. - Lost of the manufacturer guarantee. BMW can see if there was a modification in the software. As for the fuel consumption, you have to consider an increase of fuel consumption in case of a pretty fast driving. If you maintain your manner of driving you can expect the same or in some cases even lower fuel consumption. Cheers

Tunit Box or the like would do the trick for you in the UK. Simple and easy to fit and remove, located down stream from ecu, adjustable, up to 30% power boost, do a search on "diesel power" on this forum for lots more info.

The tuning companies are half right!
Bmw dealer will not go looking to see if car has been mapped!But if its a warranty issue ,they will look for anything that may affect it!They will simply need to log live data of a mapped car and compare it to a standard car... They cant see if car is mapped just by simply connecting to a Diag...! Last edited by powers1; 02-11-2010 at 05:57 PM. |

Since I posted this thread I purchased the tools so I could remap the ecu myself. The new map files are pre-tuned by a tuning house in Germany. The difference is makes to the car is brilliant and BMW have never noticed any changes when it's been in for servicing. Obviously I cannot be sure exactly what power increase I have gained without putting it on a rolling road/dyno but hey, it's well worth it!
