I was actually looking for an fx 35 when I bought my 02 3.0 X5... the FX feels more nimble and the X5 feels more planted...... that is my opinion on the FX 35 and the 3.0 X5..... I like the interior on the X5 much better. I have always leaned toward German designed interiors over Japanese designs...

I agree - I did not like the interior of the FX45 but what I really really hated was the noise from the muffler, sounds very fake. For straight line speed it looks like it has the edge on the 4.4. (I don't think that you can compare it to the 4.8 unless you ignore the 20K+ price difference.)

You may not get the most unbiased opinion here ....reverse opinions to posting on an infinity forum.

to be honest if I could have found an FX35 for the same price with the same color, mileage and options I would have bought the FX..... don't flame me, but they have a much better reputation for reliability.......

I absolutly destroyed my buddies 03 FX35 with my 01 4.4, we're talking at least 5 car lengths. But it was a 8 vs. a 6

I too looked at the FX back in 2004 when I was buying my first X5 and I LOVED the Navigation system (Bmw can't begin to touch it) or any of the electronics, I LOVED all the features for a good price BUT the X5 drove better, looked better, felt better and I just loved it, both are good cars but it would be hard to compare them

My previous car was an infiniti ...

customer service is horrible compared to bmw

now for the cars..
interiors are cheap. It appears they fixed the cheapness after 2005+. Not so sure about the new models.

I might be wrong, but the AWD system on the FX-series seems terribly outdated. I don't even think it has the smart AWD system that's on the G35x. That aside, the styling of the FX is a bit bold........almost too much so for an SUV. I've also read it rides a bit stiff all the time, and I know the interior isn't substantial in feel like the X5. And for sure, the X5 has better resale value than Nissan/Infinitis. The exhaust note on any Nissan or Infiniti annoys me too........it sounds too hollow and cheezy and I bet it gets irritating on long drives.

Both are great SUVs IMO, and I haven't driven the FX so I don't wanna say things that aren't true. I just don't like buying "imitators"........I like the real thing. BMW came out with the "sports" SAV, and the Japs are always trying to copy German ideas. I would rather give credit to the company that innovates.

I owned the FX45 for 18 months prior to the X5 4.4

*If you are into plastic interior components, wafer thin carpets and cheap leather seats that wrinkle, the FX is for you.

*How about mold in the AC system that keeps returning after being treated?

*Can you tolerate pops and rattles from the rear seats and hatch due to body flex?

*16 mpg driving like a granny.

* Do you enjoy hearing an engine with a death rattle if it's started and shut down without being throughly warmed up?

* The FX exhaust note is unique but not the nice deap tone like the X5 V8.

*Many are under the impression that the FX is a warmed over Murano. Not a good feeling when the price tag is about 15K more. Sold it to Carmax and it sat on their lot over 4 months.

The FX45 has a bone jarring ride but maybe the X5 with 20" wheels and sport suspension is similar.

Overall performance, acceleration and handling, are about the same.

My older brother had an FX 45 while i have a X5 4.8. While comparing to a 4.4 i would probably have to side with the FX. The interior of the FX maybe seem a little "cheap" but i think its very sleak and prefer it over the 4.4 interior. Speed and handling for the FX 45 again, in my opinion, are better then the 4.4. However, if were comparing 4.8 to FX 45....4.8 kicks the SHIT out of the FX45. acceleration, handling, looks are far superior to anything FX45 has to offer....
