Thanks, NC...thread's sideways anyhoo...what else can one say
about hosing off the engine bay?

That '90 Heritage was a good sled, and it's in good hands
and he's a good bro-n-law. And, I got my (2nd HD),
first new-to-me ol' 75 TroubleHead HD back.

My first HD was a used/beat to death kick start '73 XLCH Sporty.
I bought that '75 HD SuperGlide in early '75 for the huge to me price of $2800 from Jake's Harley Davidson back in the Motor. It's a lil' long in the tooth and really old school motor-wise, but it will be a fun
fiddle-with sled.

A friend of mine just bought a 2005 Audi S4 last week. Yesterday, he when he started the car, he noted rough idling, and the check enhine light on. He called the dealer, told him what was happening with the car and brought the car to them.
They diagnosed is as follows: all 8 engine coils bad, rusted. Cause was water thru the use of a pressure washer on the engine. They noted that the engine was extra clean (he bought the car from Manaheim, PA auction, and apparently the engine had been cleaned there presumably with a pressure washer). Anyway, the dealer told my friend that they have had several folks come in with similar issues, and that Warranty does not cover the fix, as it was user error that caused the problem. $1000 and 8 new coils later, my friends S4 is back in business.
Moral of the story, stay away from pressure washers if you can...or atleast be very careful where you aim the stream and how much pressure you use...it can end up being a very expensive wash.

I guess we all have different views on engine cleansiness.

A wet rag with a wipedown of all exposed visible areas after a nice drive when things are warm makes some of the effort of getting the visible parts pretty damm clean IMO. Don't laugh, but a long paintbrush and water does wonders too ;-)

I too appreciate a clean engine, but it's not a show car, I'm not messing with it
