The M3 is a dual purpose car for now... next year it will have coilovers, 4pt roll bar and race seats/ harnesses. The M3 is pretty modded already,

03 E46 M3 with SMG
Dinan Intercooled S/C with boost upgrade (512BHP)
Headers
UUC Exhaust
Dinan 3.91 diff
Dinan stage 3 suspension (not impressed)
Brembo 380mm 6 pot's front, 4 pot Brembo rear
Dinan Sways
and some other suspension mods. The car needs a set of dedicated track wheels/ tires and coilovers BAD! It's pretty quick, I dynoed at 408whp before the boost upgrade... i'm hoping shes around 440-460whp currently.

I will be hitting VIR as often as possible this coming year, I'm sure I'll see you out there.
Sounds like a well set up M3. Glad to see you included brakes with your mods. You definitely need roll bar and harnesses with that much power and speed potential. How the heck are you doing the climbing esses and Roller Coaster without seat and harnesses? At 120+ up the esses I'd get thrown around in the seat if I didn't have a race seat and 6 point harnesses to hold me in place.

Once you get the roll bar and harnesses in, consider one more safety piece- get a HANS. With the speed potential of your car I'd highly encourage that you get one.

Track tires are also essential. Two years ago, just for kicks, I did a run session at VIR on a set of street tires- Falken RT615's which are already a reasonably sticky tire. I lasted 5 laps and came in because of the lack of grip compared to my shaved RA1 Toyos. The difference was close to 3 seconds a lap on my 911, but the most dramatic difference to me was the complete lack of grip into the braking zone going into turn 1 and how much they moved around on the back straight.

I come out to VIR in September to run the Potomac PCA DE, and November with Audi Club and TrackDaze. Depending on how the rest of the year plays out, I may tow out early summer too. Look for a white 911 that'll have Martini Racing graphics next season, and I'm usually with my BIL and sister in their white 911 race car and my other sister in her tube frame 911 racer. Unless I pick up a Ford Powerstroke truck to pull an enclosed trailer, I'll be the only other X5 towing a track car at VIR.

You should try renting a Genie trailer-mounted hydraulic boom lift (TMZ34/19) at the industrial rental yard, to get the 40' high Christmas lights installed on the house. I towed it home and back with the X5, twice. The staff were, shall we say, surprised. Towed great. It did probably get more looks than the time I pulled a large float in a local parade.

Do you have any pictures of the float and crane?

The parade, no. It was a heavy equipment flat deck decorated with bunting, a railing, seats, and 20 people on it, all the past 'Citizens of the Year' as awarded by the Chamber of Commerce, plus a band. We only went 10 km/hr, the key was being smooth. No brakes on the trailer that I could control, so I broke that limit. I did run the float sound system off the vehicle via a 12v power socket. No pictures, to respect their privacy.

The boom lift is shown in this thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...appen-you.html
