Exclamation PLZ HELP!!!! somethings wrong

need info help plz, when I was driving yesterday the car started to slow down and made a grinding noise maybe from the engine or transmission not to sure happened twice like a loud grinding noise slowing down the car rappidly like it was seizing up or something. Thought maybe it was the coolant lvl not sure so i topped it off and drove him with out this occuring again. what could it be????? 2001 bmw x5 4.4i

Grinding is bad! Does it have to do with brake application? Something in the drive line: transmission, differentials, or transfer case is failing. Get to a mechanic quickly.

didnt sound like it was comming from the brake lines or that area sounded like the engine or something in the front compartment.. could it be that it was low on coolant? cuz my wife did tell me the check coolant lvl light came on earlier this week and after filled it up didnt have the problem again driving home

Any unusual fluctuations in engine rpm? Could be the brakes, since when I think grinding noise I think ABS.

yea actually could be the abs.. it was dropping real fast the rpm and speed.. not sure...
