can't decide

My wife and I are in a dilemma. We have a honda pilot that we are both kind of getting tired of (kind of the closest suve to a mini van you can get). We both love the X5 but we are worried about cargo room. We have one kid and another on the way soon. Does anyone else have two kids and drive the X5. How does the cargo space hold up on vacations. Do you run out of space.

Thanks

We have two kids...a teen and a toddler...wide gap. Once the youngest got old enought to fight with the teen we had to move the car seat out of the middle but there is still room to fit two kids and the seat without much problem. We have never had a problem with cargo space but my wife isn't the type to take the whole house with her when we travel. We have gone on several 4 day (long weekend) trips and a couple of week trips and have always managed to get everything back in the car, including shopping spoils, for the return trip.

I also have recently discovered that while you can leave the mini tail gate down and shut the top hatch, which is great for quick home depot trips, it is not a great idea to do this with 10 foot PVC pipes. It was like having 25 vents connected to the exhaust which start to snow when you hit 50MPH. What a mess..and the fumes make me high..well so it wasnt that bad

I hear what you are saying about the Pilot..I have driven them and honestly it is too much like a minivan. I say go for it. Unless you plan to have 3 or more kids than you don't need a minivan. And if you do decide to have a third, the next X5 may have 3 rows of seats!

Good Luck!

I have a 9 and 13 year old. Cargo space has not been a problem on vacations and this is coming from a guy who's wife has a shopping addiction. Always coming back home with a lot more than we left with.

one of the guys at my office has 2 kids under 7 and bought an X5, he traded it in on a Pilot because he said that the X was a bitch for his wife to get the kids into and out of (especially the car seats). I have no first hand experience with this but that was his response.

i have 2 kids aged 4 & 2.5 never had any problem with room. but one thing i can tell u its the safest car/suv ive ever owned.
i had a bad crash with the kids in the X5 almost killed the other driver who i t-boned (100% other drivers to blame thank god i had a witness) we had $30,000+ damage to the X5 the other car was a total loss cause there wasnt to much left of it.
my kids, wife and i all walked away with out a scrach (air bags work good).

We have two kids -- 12 and 19, and we have no issues with cargo space. Bot of your kids are young; I don't think space will be an issue for you.

Good luck!

Juan

I think it would be fine.

If you want to talk about a restrictive cargo space, get a 330xi!

Just thought I'd share

Wow I love these new smilies!

My wife and I have two daughters (17 and 13) and a son (15) and we take the X5 all the time on 3 to 7 day trips to Ohio (3+ hours each way) with no problems whatsoever. With the kids having their own iPods and portable DVD players, you'd never even know they were back there. Cargo wise, it works just fine for us.
