Personally, I would stray away from Chrome on the E53. Doesn't look right to me.

I personally like OEM, not to say that imola4.8isWA pix aren't beautiful.
I suppose I just like BMW. But there is nothing wrong with perfecting, pure perfection...

Does that make it like a Double Ultimate Driving Machine or what?

I've been in the market for quite some time to get 20" and 315/275s and each time I keep coming back to the style 87 rims. IMO, I love the look of factory clean rims, and being that BMW makes such nice wheels, why look elsewhere. Right now I can't decide on silver, chrome or the new black chrome rims from AFS.

However, it's not to say aftermarket rims don't look good. But, you need to lower the ride and find the right rims. Adding aftermarket rims to a pure stock BMW just doesn't look right to me.

i would say go for them if you want 20" wheels, because BMW did a sick job of making classy 20's. If you want a bigger 22" wheels likes imolas 4.8 then you got to choose the right rim, not all 22's look good on x5's, esp the chrome look, but there are quite of few different type of 22's that look better that the stock 20's, which are beautiful but thats all up to your style.

There are aftermarket wheels I would rather have then my 87’s but when it came down to cost it just isn’t worth it. $700 for my replica’s vs. $5,000 for the few aftermarket rims I like better.

After searching for a while now, I understand why there aren't that many aftermarket wheels on X's. I believe the main problem to be the tire and wheel sizes

It is true that X5 rims need to be sporty, classy and beefy because of their size. It seems difficult to find the right equation.

Technically, finding 20" wheels is not easy because most don't come in 20x10.5 but just 20x10 Then 315's don't fit (at least don't look right) so you gotta go narrower. When you go narrow, you realize you don't have a 295 equivalent. There is a rare 295/30 which would not fill the wheel well correctly anyway because of the short sidewall. So you gotta with 285's or worse 275's yikes!

In 21's you have 295/35 available from the Rack or other places, nice but you really have not much choice at all in terms of wheels (you do have the 128's as seen above) and again you gotta settle for something narrower than stock

Then you have 22's On "is" models I don't think they look too bad because of the drop; on anything else, they look too tall. Because of how large 22's are, they need to be pretty beefy and that's hard to find since we also need them to be classy and sporty (so demanding X5 owners are). 295/30 R22 tires are easily found so that's not a problem and happily meet 10.5's which are commonly found. Now weight and likelyhood of bending the rims become factors to consider here.

To add my opinion regarding OEM wheels, the more I look at them the more I find the 87's outdated. 168's are definitely growing on me, while at first I didn't like them as much as the 87's. I wonder what they look like in 22's, they even have 22x11's out there, gotta be hot !

Bottom line is I can't believe how difficult it is to find something I really like.

I found this 3-pc cast wheels from Tire Rack. They are the Rial Daytona Race ones. I always the way LM's looked and this is pretty close to that but cheaper. Being the same width as the stock ones it makes a very attractive shot. And I believe they look tons better than any other stock wheel out.

I tried a 22" photoshop. They also have 20's.
