Unable to locate rattling noise...
Over rough roads, I can hear a rattling noise that seems to be eminating from the passenger-side rear of the vehicle. I assumed it was the trunk cover - but after removing it, the noise is still there!
I took a look at the sliding piece that extends to cover the tailgate-gap, and it seems fairly well-secured, so I'm really not sure what else it could be... Any ideas? (My X5 is an 05 4.4) |

i was gonna agree w/ drex prior to u saying that it was a plastic rattle vs/ metal rattle. does this hapen all of the time, w/ or w/o the windows down?

I usually notice it with the windows up (but probably because it's not that loud, so I'd really have to be paying attention to hear it with the windows down) Can't think of any common denominators that are always present when I hear it... except for the rough road, of course.

check the gas door. there are 2 plastic pieces inside there that might be causing it. others, myself included, have taped them w/ electrical tape to prevent rattling caused from the subwoofer in the rear.
not sure how the subwoofer is attached or even if u have one, but i would check that too. outside of that, ![]() let us know.... |

No sub, and the enclosure seems secure. Everything seems secure - that's the puzzling part!!
![]() My next step is to let my wife drive around the neighborhood with me riding in the back, and hunt for the culprit! |

usually some of the metal cladding underneath that shields the bottom of the car from the exhaust system can come loose and rattle.
you might want to crawl underneath the car and have someone push up and down on the rear bumper to see if the noise is reproduced... it may be coming from there. |

Thanks drex - Actually, the vehicle is only a month old, and it sounds more like a 'plastic' rattle than a 'metal' rattle... also, it's not very loud, and it seems to originate from the interior. Any other thoughts?
