Help...Coolant Leak.

I parked my X5 on Sunday...went in the garage today and saw coolant on the floor. Checked the reservoir and it was empty...i guess it was a slow leak when i drove the car on sunday.

I filled it up and started the car, and looks like the leak is coming from the driver side...somewhere in the mid point of the engine.

I checked the radiator and it looked fine, and its not leaking from the reservoir.

Which side is the water pump? are there coolant hoses running on that side?

thanks
franklin

There is a coolant accumulator that connect the heads that is in the back of the engine. There are about 8 or 9 water connection on that thing. It's common to see leaks there that are slow. Start there, and hope it's not the o-rings in the middle, they are hard to change.

thanks....i tried looking closely again...and looks like its leaking from the sensor right by the reservoir.

Figure i'd change the reservoir and the sensor (dealer has instock)...anything else i'd need to replace around the reservoir? the cap is fairly new.

thanks

I just replaced the coolant reservoir due to a pin hole leak and it was pretty easy to see were the leak was based on dried coolant. I would think you would also see dried coolant as well if you had a leak in that area.

Valley Pan Gasket could very well be the culprit (which I've also had replaced).

My vehicle was in some time ago for the same pinhole leak in the reservoir.

i'll also keep an eye on the valley pan, although its on the intake side (not leaking) i rather do preventive then be stranded.

thanks again.
