Yea, I do not understand why the 4.4 is $1490 and the 4.8 is $640. they are the same engine, with the displacement being the only difference.

I would probably do $640 from my 4.4, since there is not a lot of competition to drive prices lower. But $1490??????? They should be charged with rape for that price!

OK everybody.....

Spoke with Joel over at the powerchip group.....nice guy. Anyway, asked about the $14xx price on the 4.4, he said that BMW was in middle of switching computer models and for that particular year, and are very difficult to program. Not impossible but close..
Secondly, for the heck of it I asked about Group Buy...no go. Joel stated that they want to keep individualized service.

Tell him about the success of the BimmerSpinners. Did we ever get a final count of how many sold under the Group Buy for X5world? It must have been huge! The power of this forum is pretty amazing.

I just checked out their website again for the 2005 4.8. They list the 2005 4.8 chip cost at $640. Now how the fuk is the 2005 4.4 pcm different from the 2005 4.8 pcm????? BMW uses two differnt pcms for these two engines???? BS!!!!!!

OK I called Joel as well. I was told that BMW made a limited run of a pcm that is basically harder for them to program. Now to check if you have that pcm you need to get the box number on your pcm and give that number to Joel. I have a 2005 4.4 with a July build, so I am hoping my pcm is the easier one to program.

They do the basic tune for these engines. Give you some more timing, better a/f , etc. They do not remove the top speed limiter though. Might be able to do that with a waiver. Also, you guys NEED to remember that if you get a new program uploader on your pcm and go to the dealer and the dealer flashes your pcm for whatever reason, you lose the tuned pcm and will need to send it back. That will cost another $50. That is pretty standard.

I wish there was an LS1Edit or HPTuner available for these BMW's. This pcm stuff is fun to play with I had loads of fun and some moments of terror when tuning my Vette.

I am still about Joel's reason. Actually, I am probably more that it costs 2.3 times more for the pcm that is a lil tougherr to work with.

I am also totally confused why he will not do a GP for these. This is a canned program that they just upload to your pcm once they get it. They have done all the R&D on a 3.0,4.4,4.8, X5's and came up with this program that they can now install over all the models. Since the R&D is done there is no need for "individual service."

It would be nice to know if the DME reprogramming also addresses the slushy (i.e. Buicklike) transmission shifting as DINAN does. BTW I e-mailed Kelleners many weeks ago requesting further info and still have not received an answer. Does not portend too well for customer service!!!!!!
