Trailer electrical

I installed the X5 wiring harness and found no current. Checked the vehicle end and found only constant with nothing going to the harness. Fuse #7-
20 amp is in tack. Do I need to add another fuse block? Any suggestions?

Did you install the full harness package with the module that goes in the spare tire well? If you have no power to the module, there must be a break in the wiring somewhere. But if you have power to the module but no power to the trailer plug receptacle, I'd bet the module is bad. Mine was plug and play.

Someone recently posted that you have to have the vehicle computer programmed to use the wiring harness, but this was more related to faster flashing issues.

That was me. But the wiring all worked fine before having the car coded. The coding just helped the fast flashing issue.

Trailor with flat 5 wire connector

I have a 2006 3.0i X5 that I want to install a hitch. I have a Prestige trailer with a flat five-wire connector instead of the more common flat four-wire connector. The fifth wire disengages a solenoid that otherwise locks the brakes when backing up. I want to install an OEM hitch on the X5. Will the BMW OEM hitch and wiring harness work with the flat five wire connection?

Yes - if it does not come with one, you will have to get an adapter plug that converts the round plug to the 5-flat. You can get this at any auto parts store.

Here's what I have. Converts the 7 pin BMW female to a 4 or 5 pin flat.

I've bought stuff from etrailer.com before. Very nice to work with and know their business. And yes it's nice to have a nearly universal adapter.
