The car is a bit lower on the rear driver's side...just went to the dealer to ask a question...and the mechanic has told me that as long as there is no fault code it should not be a big deal. I dont have a fault code...but i will keep an eye on it. I will check some fuses, jack the car up on that side, see maybe it changes... BTW i have a '01 4.4

I had this message pop up one time as well but it wasn't a big deal...I am pretty sure it was because I had some cargo in the back of the car and immediately turned my car on and whipped around a 90 degree turn at about 30 mph without ever giving it a chance to level.

For the rear-axle only SLS (no adj. ride height), most of the time the "susp. inact." light is due to a faulty self-levelling sensor(s). The light usually comes on when you're parked on s steep incline/decline, then goes away once you start driving on a level surface, but if it stays lit you should get it checked out, or just replace them both like I did. The sensor arms get gummed up with road grime/mud/dirt/water and will eventually seize up or stiffen up.
BTW the sensors are about $100 each, and only available from the dealer. |

Oops
Hey Bimmer360,
That was my mistake. I have a 2000 X5 with the 4.4 liter V8. I guess I wish I had a 2005 :-) My typos are my sub-conscience speaking Good luck with your issue Mahmud |

sensors
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but i was trying to change the RR sensor and i was wondering what the easiest way to remove it. Remove #5 or 2x #4?

Hey,
I took mine to the dealer like a big sissy and they did all of the work. Looking back I think I should have done it myself after they told me it was a sensor. I think removing the rear wheel on the driver's side will make easier access to the sensor. If not then you will have to lift the car pretty high to get to it. I really don't think they removed a lot on my car to do the work. good luck. If you really need it I can try and lookup the steps on my TIS & ETK software but I'm not near it now. DrumAdrian |

Thanks, yeh i got the rear wheel off, but it seems impossible to access the #4 screws while the sensor is installed. I think the only way is by undoing #5 but im not sure if the other screw holding it in will be a factor.

Got it removed today.
#1. Remove the regulator rod #11 by unscrewing 2x #5. #2. Take off #5 with a 10mm wrench and then the plate comes off with the sensor. #3. Remove 2x #4 screws, one of mine was siezed and snapped, so i gotta order a new locking plate. Will update when the new locking plate comes in and the sensor is back installed. |
