Any issues with it when taking your car to the BMW dealer?

BMW techs and SA manager only had positive things to say about it. They knew it was compatible.

How frequently do you use the paddles?

Whenever the mood strikes! It so easy to switch modes... might use them when entering a motorway or for agressive downshifts, then throw her back in auto. I use them in a impulsive manner.

... do you also have to do your first manual shift with the steptronic selector or the first shift can be with the paddles?

Just move the shifter in M/S mode and start paddling! The paddles are just an extension of the console shifter. Either one will send the signal to switch into manual.

So I have the wheel from the first pic on a 2001 (manual transmission). Will the steering wheel in the 2nd pic fit my X? I mean like without the airbag light coming on and a bunch of problems (radio controls not working, etc)?

everything will work. Just need to buy the airbag . If you remove the neg battery terminal during install you souldn't get the airbag light.

Good luck. I have an M wheel if you want, its the non SMG wheel tri color. It's not brand new but it's in good condition for a used wheel. Came from a 2003 M3. You would use the same airbag. Its used but it looks better than the wheel you want to put on in my opinion. Will PM you.
