Thats def. NWS. Get something new. I've tried driving a repaired car. Not worth the safety implications, not worth the loss of feel.
Get an E61. They're ill.

i think you are only looking at short term expenses ... who knows how much more it will need in the long term ... take the money buy a new vehicle ... and if you have space / time / money / make this your new project/ hobby car ... might as well transplant the new 335i motor in it or some other unique stuff ... as far as daily driver / kids / family car, move on ...

Well, this is my area having been in an excellent body shop for many years. We did the work for the local BMW, MB, Infinity and Lexus dealers.

Some things to consider: Don't fix it!

You should walk away from this one. SUV/SAV prices are down now. The insurance company will likely give you more than you would get selling it yourself. Go around and find other Xs like yours and make a list of their prices. If the insurance says it is worth Y dollars and you show them a list of similar ones for a different price, then they will match that.

If you fix it, it will be a salvage vehicle and it will be worth nothing and you won't be able to sell or trade it in for any price. There are lots of nice Xs out there, it isn't the first Ferrari or anything historical or rare.

Few shops can handle this. It is a big and difficult job, so beware.

In these times some shops might need a job badly enough to take on a project way over their heads. How about suspension bolts welded in because the holes wouldn't line up? There is more, much more!

Nobody in the world would do that job for $2300. The upper figure in labor alone is more likely. Or more.

Yes, the insurance company did total it for a reason. It would cost more to fix than it is worth. They consider the money, nothing else. Also, even if it was borderline, they know that things keep coming up at hundreds and thousands of dollars a pop and while it may not technically be a total now, it soon will be.

BTW, insurance company allowances for front end clips is very, very low, completely unrealistic. If they totaled it, it really is a total and the actual costs for repairing it at any decent shop will likely be much higher.

How much time out of your life are you willing to devote to a wrecked vehicle?

You will not come out ahead on this if you fix it. Maybe not if you total it either, but that would still be the smart choice. I would tell you the same thing if you had come to where I worked. I told people this story many times. If they didn't believe me, I would simply refuse the job anyway.

So, think hard about it and good luck.
