Performance Question
Anyway - 2004 4.4 X5 50,000 miles - Sometimes when I let off the gas, the vehicle feels like it is applying the brakes by itself. I am not braking but there is a distinct "slowing" of the car - it does not feel like it is free wheeling. It does not pull and there are no unusual smells to indicate brake problems. Mileage remains consistent. It is going in for service soon, but I thought I'd get some opinions. Any? Thanks - John |

Yor BMW does not go to "Free Wheeling" but brakes with the engine, and eaven shifts down. It is more advanced gearbox that gives you benefits of a standard box

Are u in sport mode? If so, it is normal, the gear box downshifts.
In normal mode, the downshit should not occur.

It's not a crown vic, the transmission keeps the engine engaged when you let off the throttle causing compression braking, in generally cheaper cars when you let off the throttle it just keeps going because the transmission is slipping (it's a sports-like car, this is completely normal)

Thank you all for the input. Unfortunately, I'm more used to the Crown Vic feeling - old habits die hard.
