I dont mind fixing things that break, that is common. I had to replace the tranny, brakes, maf, all window regulators, the list goes on...this should not be on that caliber of vehicle in my opinion. I did note that the turbo setup we used was on a mustang. The car already had 42 lb injectors and a good fuel system. I wouldnt go cheap either but not necessarily would go all the best name brands either. The megasquirt is only 400 dollars new and does a lot. it is actually a stand alone system. Not having the skills to do this himself he should still be able to get someone to do a turbo setup for around 4k. I told him there would be a labor charge. Im sure that a setup on an x would be more than on a stang too. We have an outlaw car that runs 4.80s so far and we only have 6k in that turbo system and its a 106mm turbonetics turbo. It can be done is all Im saying.

01blacks4 and w89coupe,
i appreciate what both of you are saying. i think its best that i leave my car the way it is. i dont think i'll ever find anyone to build it on the cheap and i dont see the value in having dinan/brembo installed.

Sure, the repair bills are frustrating when they pop up, but darn it, these cars are fun to drive.

MS will not work on the X5...its an OBD2 system....MS really only works on the OBD1 bmw....
plus with the valve timing, etc etc etc, i would not trust it to a MS...yeah a new mustang motor is a couple grand, wanna price out a new bmw v8?

and not trying to be an ass, cause i have replaced all that stuff on my car too, but its just a car...not a "car of that caliber"....i never understood how people think cause it cost more, it should break less.

ill sell ya my Dinan SC system if ya want....

Man you ALL need to lay off this guy....I too have had to fix stuff, and it sucks !!! (tranny twice on one of my X's) he is just expressing how happy he feels to be out from what he felt as a large burden.....
you are all taking it personally, its not like YOU made or designed the truck.

As far as 10% return on the SC or Brembp....thats kinda a prsonal issue also, if you are willing to sell them for 10% of what you paid then ueah that what they are worth, but i can PROMISE....noone has sole thier used Brembos on here for $800 bucks for the front and rear... and NO ONE has sole thier S3 SC system for $1800 bucks. See how silly that sounds when you put a price on a comment like that. YOu might have a hard time getting 50% of thier new value if left on the vehical when sold. But i can almost promise, your will get 50% if your remove and sell seperate.

Just cause one seller had a hard time doesnt mean all do.

W89coupe: First, let me say I sympathize with your plight, and I think blind devotion and loyalty to any inanimate object like a BMW SUV is just silly. Unlike some others on these forums, I am not obsessed with BMW, and will readily admit that they have a LOOOOOOONG way to go to catch either Toyota or Honda in relaibility.

Please take comfort in knowing that the global market is the ultimate equalizer. Brands that do not make the effort to improve reliability will suffer in sales as their poor reputation spreads. Case in point: Look at the hit Mercedes took after they merged with Chrysler in the 1990s. Their sh&t reliability and their use of sub-standard Chrysler parts (instead of German components) quickly knocked them off their pedestal as a premier German car maker. Both Audi and BMW were only too happy to take over the mantle from Daimler-Chrysler. Only now is Daimler slowly trying to claw their way back to respectability after divesting from Chrysler.

BMW should heed this lesson well. They could easily find themselves in a similar situation if their reliability continues to drop. They are not at the bottom of the pack right now(Range Rover and Jaguar have that dubious honor), but BMW has had their share of well-documented issues in the X5 product line.

For example, I'm about to take my 2006 4.4 to the dealer for the 4th time in 2 years for the same exact problem, which keeps coming back: condensation inside the headlamp housing, causing short-circuits in turn signals and headlights. And we all know about the CV Boot issues and the A/C issues.

As for the E70, even the most loyal X5 fanatics are ticked off about the useless rear camera. And I'm hearing more and more about E70 transmission "gremlins", which is not something you want to see in a brand new product line. All these things may be "minor" on their own, but they will keep adding up to eventually taint the brand if BMW does not sit up and take notice.
