I am impressed with your interest in your X5. The mechanical skills you learn now will serve you for the rest of your life. Go to www.realoem.com to see individual parts and break away images to visualize how to do repairs. You can also buy repair CD's online; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Manu....c0.m245.l1318 Start getting your own tool collection and don't give up. Good luck

If you think you got ripped from this dealer (Which BTW is a sponser on this site). Just repost your problem and entitled it "Morristown I don't feel good about this" State the issue and if you have a legitimate case perhaps they may review it with you privately.

Could somebody in New Jersey tell me a good independant specialist around the zip code listed above? My parents are planning to go back to Morristown BMW to get a price quote on the recommended parts. We'd really appreciate a good specialist to compare prices to.

I already went on the RealOEM site beforehand. Found out the cupholder device (for lack of a better word) was $101. The shifter boot was $63. For the cupholder device, the site stated that it has no installation instructions, and the "Removing Center Console" guide seems to hard without pictures for me.

And to the issue, I may have to try and see what happens.

So - Is this a lesson to learned that even a sponsor for this site is label "stealership". Should we banned then at this time? Or at least boycott and not buy from them (I was ready to get a skid plate from them)for some time?
This is hard evidence of a "rip off"

every dealer has different rate but ALWAYS more than indy shops. Why? because part of the amount they charge you will have to go to rent, mechanic and some other operating expenses that are way too high compared to smaller indy shops. That's why, lesson i learned in life is, DO NOT EVER go to dealer unless its necessary. So you're 14 years old? Wow, kudos to you for making all these efforts.

Yes, I'm 14 years old. I'll try and get a picture of our X5 and possibly a reflection of me in the picture. (Don't feel that secure to show my face around, so maybe part of my face)

I think the reason why we keep going to the Morristown was because it WAS in walking distance of my dad's work. It has since moved to a much bigger complex.

Also, I think the loaner cars or rides really helps over the independant specialists. If I was on a week day, we'd get a loaner and my parents could go to work easily. If it was on a weekend, we'd just ask for a ride back and we'd use our second car. Independant specialists don't have the loaner cars or rides back, so my parents think of it as a hassle they don't want to deal with.

yea seriously. they have great deals on parts. you can't expect a dealership to offer cheap repairs, they have way too much overhead.

Sorry if this sounds judgmental, but a 14 year old complaining about his parents resistance in fixing the cupholders in his BMW has a little more to learn, and not just about BMW's. They sound like pretty good parents to me!

Good luck with the X5. You can save a ton of money by digging in and trying some of these things yourself. Trial and error. You'll save tons more in successes than you'll lose with the mistakes you'll make. You sound like a smart kid. You'll figure it all out!

Again...sorry for the criticism.

Well, it isn't my BMW at all, and never will be. I just want to have each of our cars to be in the best possible condition it can be in.

I mean good when I want my parents to spend less money on things like tires, when the tires are actually better than the originals. It isn't just resistance on just some simple thing like cupholders, it's been like that with the A/C that just needed a recharge. It has been like that for about a month with me sitting in the passenger side sweating when the driver is perfectly fine with A/C. It's been like that with a crash that chipped and scratched our bumper one year ago, and the resistance to fix it with the deteriorating condition of our car. It's been like that with washing the X5, that they won't try and wash the car until I actually prepare the soap, pressure washer, towels, and start on one of the cars. It's also the resistance of going to independant specialists with their reason of them using cheaper/non-OEM parts behind our backs.

If you guys knew the whole story, things may change for the better or worse on my side. Anyway, I'll stop posting as much as I seem to have gone too far.
