Spilled Gas in Trunk, Help!

Good morning...Like the title says, I spilled gas in the trunk last night. I am borrowing my bro-in-laws powerwasher and I guess I didn't secure it tight enough b/c it spilled out gas, about a 4" by 4" circle. The smell is horrible and it's giving me a headache. I tried to pat it out with a towel but only absorbed some of the gas. Any thoughts? The smell is going to get me high soon, any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

is it only on the carpet? can you remove the trunk floor and air it out?

Yes, it's on the carpet, but won't the smell stay there forever unless I do something to it? I need to remove the trunk floor and air it out, good idea there, but will the smell remain? I'm suprised there is nothing that will neutralize the smell.

just clean it like you would anything else and let the sun beat on it for a few hours.

Stain Buster -- Gasoline

Fabric

1. Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or other absorbent on the stain. Let stand for about 30 minutes, and then brush off.

2. Pretreat with a prewash stain remover.

3. Launder, using the hottest water safe for the fabric. Let fabric air-dry until you are certain the stain is completely removed. Do not dry in tumble dryer.



Upholstery

1. Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or other absorbent on the stain. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes, and then vacuum.

2. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent.

3. Blot until the solvent is absorbed.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain disappears.



Carpet

1. Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or other absorbent on the stain. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes, and then vacuum.

2. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent.

3. Blot until the solvent is absorbed.

4. If the stain remains, mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Sponge the stain with this solution. Blot until the liquid is absorbed.

5. Sponge with cold water and blot dry to remove the detergent/vinegar solution.

Or you know, you could always light a match and burn it off

Baby powder is a neutralizer for the smell...Trust me.. dump it all over the place and then wash it all out together with the gas as best you can..

Just pull the carpet and replace it...

Any absorbent powder will take it out. Use some type of commercial Floor-Dry, or go with baking power or cornstarch. Once the residue is gone, so is the smell.
