It still sounds like your problem is that you have late model wheels on an early diameter hub.
Aircraft alloy hub centric rings are available here for the X5 on the PhoenixMotorsport page tab, www.wuffer.net from Tom who sells exactly the parts you need for the E31 8-Series which suffers the same problem.
