thinking of getting this hitch whattya guys think.....

so i went to a trailer joint (the biggest around) trailor city and they recomended this one and i think it'll suite my needs !! i wanted to get some opinions from the masters of the x5 !!

http://www.hiddenhitch.com/fitguides/pdf/N87405.pdf

i like it for a couple o reasons :

1)it goes where the stock one would
2)it bolts to the front and rear crossmembers
3)its rated for 6k lbs
4)its cheap @ $171.00

im more worried about asstetics then anything as i only tow an atv or two on occasion nothing more than 2000 lbs.this one looks like it would mimic the factory hitch !!

what i am worried about is the wiring harness crapp !! the installer at the place said he wouldnt touch it since it such a complicated car and such , he'd do the install but not the wiring ..now my cousin own an indie shop and hes really good so im gonna have him do it but do you think if i get a uhaul wiring kit im gonna have prob's like error's and stuff ?? has anyone hooked up an aftermarket wiring harness for the hitch and had good luck ?? any and all feed back would be greatly appreciated !!

thanks guys and gals

NEIL

Find a different shop. He's going to weld it to your frame and mess up your car.... Anyone can do that.

IMO, you have a nice car, I would just stick with the BMW hitch.

Havta agree...shop for OEM. There's definitely an added assurance. I may part with mine if i decide against a certain hobby. Will let you know if i do.

If I were you, I would spend few hundred dollars more and get the BMW hitch.

Neil,
I say go for it. Waiting on an OEM one may or may not ever happen. I would do my rounds at the local salvage yards first. After that.... Go for it. Why not.
