I have an 06 Expedition. It has been a great car. Seats 8, loaded. no issues. I hardly drive it anymore since I got my X. With prices the way they are, why not find a newer X? My Brother is BMW dealer among others.

Never gave it a shot, it was much better to pay $250 and no points or fuss.
I figure I pay so much to own/lease a BMW whats another $250 once or twice a year.
I actually may speed more often when I am out of state.

R.I.P. Shanequa II 09-2001 - 01-2009.
She lived a spirited live. Near the end, she had some plastic surgery done and put on a show every where she went. She will be missed by her family. She served them well in the 3 years she was with them.

Yup.. so its a total loss people. I couldnt believe it but the cost of BM parts and labour did her in. So now i have to decide who her successor will be. I half joked earlier.. but it seems like i will be getting a new car. Stay tuned.. might be an e70 (anyone know what the leases go for? or what i should expect to pay for a CPO in the lower ranges?). maybe i'll start a new thread.

I'm going to go take out the sirius which i just got renewed!! and the 20" wheels and tires and replace them with some 17" or something.
Wow. How much does the insurance company want for it? Hmmm.....

The "total" may be a blessing in disguise. Depending on the insurance company, they may re-imburse at a higher value than Kelly Blue Book, and certainly higher than anything a used E53 would fetch in a private sale in this economy.

My mom got a great deal from the GEICO adjuster when they declared a "total" on her 1999 Camry V6. Don't remeber the exact $$ but it was about 30% higher than Blue Book.

On the other hand, if they low-ball you, you can always challenge them and keep pestering until they meet your price point. Good luck Rasta!

Again, very sorry for your loss. Don't know if this is even an option for you but I had a car that was totaled and the insurance company gave me a $ number - Out of curiosity more than anything asked how much they would sell it for, they were effectively going to buy it from me.

The number was unbelievably low and I decided to do a deal with them. Have them give me the original amount for the car, less the salvage amount and I kept it.

I ended up parting out the car myself and making a good profit - once I had reached the limit selling the parts that were good, I had a junk yard pick up the car for free and hauled it off.

Knowing what you know about X5's (and having this forum available) you have some expertise and market access. That can go a long way in terms of finding buyers, understanding market $ value and potentially disassembly if you do it yourself.

Having a place away from your home to store and sell parts from is the key.

Don't know if it's an option for you and I'm sorry for your loss - it was one really nice X5.

RASTA,

SORRY ABOUT YOUR ACCIDENT AND TOTAL LOSS ON YOUR X. I AM GLAD YOU ARE OK, X CAN ALWAYS BE REPLACED. I DON'T THINK ANY TYPE OF TIRE WOULD HAVE SAVE THE X FROM SKIDDING BECAUSE OF BLACK ICE EVEN IF YOU WERE GOING 20MPH, THE X WOULD STILL SKID, BEST WAY TO AVOID THAT IS NOT TO DRIVE ON BLACK ICE CONDITION UNLESS YOU HAVE SNOW CHAINS ON YOUR TIRES. ON THE OTHER HAND YOUR X DIDNT LOOK THAT BAD BUT CONSIDERING THE BOOK VALUE OF THE 01 X VERSUS THE COST OF OEM PARTS FROM BMW AND LABOR, I GUESS IS NOT WORTH REPAIRING SINCE IS A 01 X PER THE INSURANCE COMPANY. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND I WOULD GET IN E70 4.8 IF THAT IS AN OPTION CHECK MY PM TO YOU.
